Abstract: An optical system includes a light guide member having a light incident surface, a first surface, and a light emergent surface facing the first surface; and a prism provided in the first surface for reflecting light passing inside the light guide member towards the light emergent surface. The light guide member includes a direct optical path, along which the light that has entered the light guide member through the incident surface is directly reflected from the prism and allowed to emerge from the light emergent surface. At least one of the first surface or the light emergent surface includes a luminous intensity distribution control member configured to control a luminous intensity distribution of light to be extracted from the light emergent surface. The luminous intensity distribution control member includes a Fresnel lens.

Abstract: A display device includes light guide plate, a light source, and a concealing plate. The light guide plate propagates light incident from an incident end surface, reflects the light with a prism provided on a reflection surface, and causes the light to emit from an emission surface facing the reflection surface. The light guide plate has a plurality of inclined surfaces on a side end surface excluding an incident end surface of the light guide plate and a facing end surface facing the incident end surface, and a line segment connecting a center of sides of the plurality of inclined surfaces and a center of the light source, and the sides of the inclined surfaces are substantially perpendicular.

Abstract: A multicolor display apparatus displays a design pattern by reflecting light beams which are incident into a light guide body by arrays of fine shapes and emitting the reflected light beams from the light emission surface, in which, when it is assumed that the gradation values of red, green, blue, and white at a point where a specific color (to be displayed) of the design pattern of the light guide body is displayed using red, green, blue, and white light are set as I(r), I(g), I(b), and I(w), respectively, and when it is assumed that the gradation values of red, green, and blue in the case of displaying a color close to the specific color using only red, green, and blue light without white light are set as Ir, Ig, and Ib, respectively, the fine shapes for each of red, green, blue, and white colors have a height or a pitch which corresponds to the gradation values I(r), I(g), I(b), and I(w) as follows: I(w)=min(Ir, Ig, Ib)×A/100; I(r)=Ir−I(w); I(g)=Ig−I(w); I(b)=Ib−I(w). Here, A/100 is less than 1. Thus, it is possible to realize a beautiful white color and realize display which has high color reproducibility without influence due to a machining error and allows a user to feel beautiful.

Abstract: A display apparatus includes: a light guide plate; a light source that causes light to be incident on an end surface of the light guide plate; a hiding plate that is provided on a side of an emission surface of the light guide plate, and that includes a light transmission part which transmits light emitted from the emission surface and a light shielding part which has lower light transmittance than the light transmission part; and a colored board that has light reflectance closer to light reflectance of the light shielding part than light reflectance of the light transmission part in each wavelength, and that is provided on a side of a reflection surface of the light guide plate so as to overlap the light transmission part of the hiding plate when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the emission surface of the light guide plate.
