A method is disclosed for pre-sending content size information so that content objects that might exceed the client device's resources are not sent in subsequent content transmissions. For example, a network node may receive from a content server a content message directed to a client device, wherein the content message includes a plurality of object references, each referencing respectively an object that is not contained in the content message. The network node may determine an object size of at least one of the objects and a supported content size for the client device. Based upon the determined object size and the determined supported content size of the client device, the network node may modify the content message by removing the object reference referencing the at least one object and then send the modified content message to the client device.

By maintaining a database of historic usage information, the downstream element can determine that an upstream failover has occurred when the amount of data it is processing drops below a minimum usage threshold. The minimum usage threshold is based on the historical usage data and a relationship between a given time in the past and the current time.

The gateway cookie is provided to the mobile device and stored on the mobile device. A second access request, received from the mobile device, includes the gateway cookie and the second access request corresponds to a second attempt by the mobile device to access the mobile network. The mobile device is authenticated using the gateway cookie.

Disclosed herein is a method and system, in which a network entity determines that an HTTP response destined to a client station contains a markup document that references at least one object but that the HTTP response does not contain the object. In response, in addition to sending the HTTP response to the client station, the network entity will send to the client station a supplemental HTTP response that contains the object, without the client station sending a request for the object. By avoiding the need for the client station to send a request for the object, the extent of HTTP communication by the client station is reduced. In the situation where the client station is a wireless handset or other wireless communication device, the method is particularly advantageous, as the method can reduce the number of air interface communications and can thus help to conserve valuable air interface resources.
