Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for scheduling uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) physical layer resources for a serving node and a user equipment (UE) for round trip time (RTT) and observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) based positioning. In an aspect, a serving node and/or a network entity configure the UL and DL physical layer resources, and inform the UE. A network node transmits RTT measurement (RTTM) signal to the UE and receives RTT response (RTTR) signals from the UE. The network node measures the times the RTTM signals are transmitted and the times the RTTR signals are received. The UE provides to serving node processing times indicating a duration between the UE receiving the RTTM signals and the UE transmitting the RTTR signals. The RTTs are calculated from the times measured by the network node and the processing times provided by the UE.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for positioning of a mobile device in a wireless network using directional positioning reference signals (PRS), also referred to as PRS beamforming. In an example method, a plurality of directional PRSs are generated for at least one cell for a base station, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs comprises at least one signal characteristic and a direction of transmission, either or both of which may be distinct or unique. The plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted within the at least one cell, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted in the direction of transmission. A mobile device may acquire and measure at least one of the directional PRSs which may be identified using the associated signal characteristic. The measurement may be used to assist position methods such as OTDOA and ECID and to mitigate multipath.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments facilitate UE location determination in systems with dense PRS configurations, reduced PRS periodicity, frequency hopping, and involving UE inter-frequency measurements. The techniques may be applied to Bandwidth reduced-Low complexity (BL) UEs, or enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) UEs or Further enhanced MTC (FeMTC) UEs and/or in LTE-M systems. A method on a UE may comprise: receiving a Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) measurement request; transmitting, in response to the RSTD measurement request, a dedicated gap request comprising a requested configuration of dedicated gaps; and receiving, in response to the dedicated gap request, a message comprising a dedicated gap configuration. The dedicated gap request may comprise a request for dedicated measurement gaps and the message may comprise a dedicated measurement gap configuration. In some embodiments, the dedicated gap request may comprise a request for dedicated autonomous gaps and the message may comprise a dedicated autonomous gap configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for transmit power control for positioning using non-serving cells are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine that an uplink reference signal may be associated with a positioning procedure. In some cases, the positioning procedure may include transmission, by the UE, of the reference signal to a non-serving cell, which may be farther away from the UE than a serving cell. The UE may determine an absence of a parameter associated with a transmit power for transmitting the reference signal. Based on the absence, the UE may determine the transmit power based on parameters received from a serving cell, based on configuration information, based on a message intercepted from the non-serving cell, or based on other considerations or information. In some cases, the UE may determine the transmit power such that the likelihood of the non-serving cell receiving the reference signal is increased.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for providing configurable reference signal timing difference (RSTD) search windows for positioning. In an aspect, an RSTD search window is configured based on a positioning reference signal (PRS) configuration. The RSTD search window is provided to the UE. A plurality of PRS is transmitted from a network entity to a user equipment (UE), each PRS having the PRS configuration. The plurality of PRS are transmitted in a subset that is less than all subcarriers over a given bandwidth.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for multi-level configuration and reporting for positioning in new radio (NR) wireless communications systems. In some wireless communications systems, a network entity may determine a position or location of a supported user equipment (UE) using radio access network information. The information may be associated with UE-assisted positioning techniques, such as a positioning reference signal (PRS) transmission by the base station and reporting of radio signaling measurements by the UE. The UE may support a multi-level configuration for reporting the radio signaling measurements, including determined report quantities on one or more of a resource level, a set level, or a setting level for the PRS transmission, or generally for the network entity. The described techniques may improve robustness associated with the reporting and, in some examples, reduce signaling overhead associated with determining a positioning and location of the UE.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) periodically obtains its location using UE based Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA). The location is based on Reference Signal Time Differences (RSTDs) measured by the UE for downlink (DL) signals transmitted by each of a plurality of base stations, and the most current Real Time Differences (RTDs) for pairs of base stations. The RTDs may be determined by the UE using the RSTD measurements and Round Trip Time (RTT) measurements determined by a network entity or by the UE. The RTDs may be determined less frequently than the UE location to reduce network and UE load. Location of the UE may be improved based on testing a rate of change for each of the RTDs. The RTD determination may be improved using measurements from a plurality of UEs.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for using sounding reference signal (SRS) for positioning. In an aspect, a UE receives an SRS configuration, the SRS configuration defining one or more SRS resource sets, each SRS resource set comprising one or more SRS resources, and each SRS resource comprising one or more SRS ports, wherein at least one SRS port of at least one SRS resource of at least one SRS resource set defined in the SRS configuration is usable by the UE at least for positioning. The UE transmits a positioning SRS utilizing one or more positioning SRS ports, wherein the positioning SRS is transmitted in a positioning SRS pattern such that across N consecutive symbols, where N is greater than or equal to two, SRS resource elements (REs) to which the one or more positioning SRS ports are mapped are staggered in frequency and use each of the N consecutive symbols.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for handling of radio frequency (RF) front-end group delays for round trip time (RTT) estimation. In an aspect, a network entity determines a network total group delay (GD) and a user equipment (UE) determines a UE total GD. The network entity transmits one or more RTT measurement (RTTM) signals to the UE. Each RTTM signal includes a RTTM waveform. The UE determines one or more one or more RTT response (RTTR) payloads for one or more RTTR signals. Each RTTR signal also includes a RTTR waveform. The UE transmits the RTTR signal(s) to the network entity. For each RTTR signal, a transmission time of the RTTR waveform and/or the RTTR payload is/are determined based on the UE total GD. The network entity determines a RTT between the UE and the network entity based on the RTTM signal(s), the RTTR signal(s), and the network total GD.
