Abstract:
A method of making and using a multifunction printer comprising forming a vertical hinge mechanism in a first end of a printer's cleanout member. A second portion of the hinge mechanism is formed as a hole in a housing of the printer for coupling with the first portion. A third portion of the hinge mechanism is formed as a hole in a scanner portion of the printer also for coupling with the first portion. The cleanout member pivots about the vertical rotational axis formed by the hinge mechanism.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring relative position of a carriage and a recording medium in an inkjet printing system having a roller for advancing the recording medium along a recording medium advance direction, the method includes sending light from a light source toward at least a portion of the roller; receiving reflected light in a two-dimensional sensor mounted on the carriage; sending a signal from the two-dimensional sensor to a controller, wherein the signal indicates the pattern of reflected light received by the two-dimensional sensor; comparing the received signal by the controller to a signal stored in memory; and calculating a shift between the received signal and the signal stored in memory.
Abstract:
An inkjet printhead assembly comprising an array of nozzles fed by a corresponding ink inlet. An ink chamber corresponding to the array of nozzles is fluidly connected to the ink inlet. An air extraction chamber includes an air chamber, a one-way relief valve having an open position that allows venting of the air chamber to ambient, and a closed position that does not allow venting of the air chamber to ambient. A piston in the form of a disk forces air to be vented from the air chamber through the one-way relief valve in its open position. It also applies a reduced air pressure to a membrane while the one-way relief valve is in its closed position.
Abstract:
A printing device includes a first array of dot forming elements disposed on a substrate along an array direction at a first array-direction spacing to provide a first dot forming resolution R1 for dots of a first color; and a group of N arrays of dot forming elements, wherein the dot forming elements in each array of the group of N arrays are disposed on the substrate along the array direction at a second array-direction spacing to provide a dot forming resolution equal to R1/N; at least one of the N arrays of dot forming elements forms dots of a different color than at least one of the other arrays of the N arrays in the group; and N is greater than 1.

A compressible member forces air to be vented from the air chamber through the one-way relief valve in its open position. It also applies a reduced air pressure to a membrane while the one-way relief valve is in its closed position.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A multifunction printer includes a printing apparatus including: a printing device; a media advance system for advancing recording medium for printing on by the printing device; a controller for controlling the operation of the multifunction printer; an image capture platform; a lid having a closed position in which the lid covers the image capture platform, and an open position in which a front edge of the lid is raised above the image capture platform; a holder for a smart mobile device, the holder being mounted proximate the front edge of the lid; and a proximity device for identifying a particular smart mobile device that is placed in the holder.
Abstract:
A method of scanning an oversized document includes positioning the oversized document at a first position on a first surface of a platen which is supported by a frame; wherein a distance between a lid and the first surface of the platen is less than a distance between the lid and the frame; scanning the oversized document in its first position to provide a first scan; moving the oversized document to a second position on the first surface of the platen, wherein the second position overlaps the first position; scanning the oversized document in its second position to provide a second scan; using a controller of the multifunction printer to select a stitching edge of the first scan and the second scan; and stitching together the first scan and the second scan at the stitching edge to form a composite scanned image of the oversized document.
