摘要: A muffler assembly includes first and second muffler components that are each formed as a single piece. The first muffler component includes a first outlet pipe portion, a first bypass pipe mount portion, and a first resonator shell portion. The second muffler component includes a second output pipe portion, a second bypass pipe mount portion, and a second resonator shell portion. The first and second muffler components are positioned in an overlapping relationship such that respective portions are aligned with each other to form an outlet pipe, a bypass pipe mount, and a resonator shell. A noise attenuation valve assembly is also installed within the first and second muffler components. The bypass pipe mount is positioned at a non-perpendicular orientation relative to the outlet pipe such that a bypass pipe having a straight end mount can be received within the bypass pipe mount to bypass the noise attenuation valve assembly.

摘要: A heat transfer system for transferring heat for use onboard a vehicle includes a conductor arranged to conduct exhaust gas discharged from an engine of the vehicle along a serpentine path to generate back pressure for transmission to the engine so that heat of exhaust gas flowing along the serpentine path is maximized. The heat transfer system includes a tube arranged to conduct fluid so that heat is transferred from the exhaust gas to the fluid.

摘要: By using a spun extrusion method to form a side entry exhaust inlet, a muffler can be completely stuffed and end caps can be spun onto opposing ends of the muffler on a high speed production line without interruptions. The side entry exhaust inlet is formed within a muffler shell at a position between the opposing ends. A spinning tool engages an internal peripheral area of the side entry exhaust inlet to form a spun extruded surface that extends outwardly from the muffler shell.

摘要: A process for improving 6XXX alloys, such as 6013, preferably includes heating, hot rolling, inter-rolling thermal treatment at a very high temperature such as 1020° F. or more, again hot rolling (with or without subsequent continuous hot rolling or cold rolling or both), solution heat treating and artificial aging. The initial heating, inter-rolling, thermal treatment and solution treatment, especially the latter two, are carried out at very high temperatures such as 1030° F. Each aforesaid hot rolling stage produces substantial metal thickness reduction. The improved sheet or plate product has a substantially reduced occurrence of reduced density features revealed in scanning electron microscope examination at 500× and exhibits improved (reduced) fatigue crack growth rate providing an advantage in aerospace applications such as fuselage skin, especially fuselage belly skin.
