摘要: Display device is based on layer break up or layer displacement having at least two different states, in which one of the fluids, e.g., oil in a first state, adjoins at least a first support plate and, in the second state, the other fluid at least partly adjoins the first support plate. In one embodiment, a picture element corresponds to a substantially closed space and, in the first state, the other fluid layer substantially completely adjoins both support plates and is divided in two sub-layers. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to use lower voltages to make displacement occur. On the other hand, this opens the opportunity to color displays.

摘要: An exemplary display device based on layer displacement having a perforated white substrate positioned close to a transparent substrate. Layer (fluid) displacement such as oil movement results in the (colored) oil film being pumped in a controlled manner above the white substrate. Fluids of three subtractive colors can be independently pumped to separate spaces. Based on the color strength of the used fluids good color rendition can be obtained for a flow channel thickness of less than 25 microns and therefore a total pixel thickness including the sub pixel reservoirs of less than 200 microns.

摘要: The present invention relates to an electrowetting element for a display device, a display device and a control system for controlling at least one electrowetting element. The electrowetting element comprises: a radiation valve comprising a first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with the first fluid, wherein the first and second fluids are configurable to change a characteristic of radiation passing through at least one of the first and second fluids; and an electrically switchable part switchable between a reflective mode for reflecting radiation incident on the switchable part and towards the radiation valve, and a transmissive mode for transmitting radiation incident on the switchable part through the switchable part and towards the radiation valve.

摘要: A method of disentangling sample properties in a scanned sample requires a calibration sample in which two sample properties are variable. The calibration sample is scanned, and two measured variables are recorded during the scan. The two sample properties are measured quantitatively by an independent means. Using the data from the calibration sample, conversion functions are mathematically determined, in order to convert the two measured variables into the two sample properties. A sample, for which the two properties are unknown, is scanned, and the two measured variables are recorded. Using the conversion functions, the data from the scan is converted into the two sample properties of interest for the unknown sample. This method can be used with the first sample property being topography, so that effects due to the topography of the sample are eliminated from the computation of the second property of the unknown sample. This method can also be used with the probe in contact with the sample, so that topography is not one of the two sample properties.
