Abstract: In an image reading apparatus, a controller detects a plurality of detection points along a first edge, sets one of the detection points arranged along the first edge which is closest to a center of a sheet placement area in a second axial direction, and determines a reference read position in the second axial direction, based on the selected detection point. Abstract: An image scanning apparatus includes a document table that forms a document mounting surface, a cover body that covers and uncovers the document table, and a hinge mechanism which has an angle retainer that retains an opening angle of the cover body and which allows the cover body to be lifted up and down.
