Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing a retardation film excellent in retardation controllability against heat and the retardation film. The method for producing a retardation film includes, in the following order: fixing an alignment of liquid crystal compounds to form a retardation giving layer, and heating the retardation giving layer. Preferably, the heating is first heating and the method further includes second heating for heating the retardation giving layer after the first heating.

Abstract: The liquid crystal display panel includes: a first polarizing plate; a first retardation provision portion including a first λ/4 plate; a first substrate; a second retardation provision portion including a second λ/4 plate; a liquid crystal layer containing nematic liquid crystal; a second substrate; and a second polarizing plate. One of the first substrate and the second substrate includes a pair of electrodes configured to generate a horizontal electric field at the liquid crystal layer upon voltage application. The nematic liquid crystal homogeneously aligns with no voltage application between the electrodes. One of the first retardation provision portion and the second retardation provision portion includes, on the first substrate side, a first retarder. The in-plane slow axis of the first λ/4 plate forms an angle of 45° with the absorption axis of the first polarizing plate and is orthogonal to the in-plane slow axis of the second λ/4 plate.

The filter portion includes a visible-light-shielding portion that obstructs visible light, and a near-infrared-light-shielding portion that obstructs near-infrared light. The position of the filter portion relative to the imaging element is fixed.
