    Abstract: Provided is an optical waveguide device in which destabilization of a DC bias which is applied to an optical waveguide, due to a bias electrode picking up electric noise, is reduced and an operating characteristic is stable.An optical waveguide device includes: a substrate having an electro-optic effect; an optical waveguide formed on the substrate; a modulation electrode for applying an electric field corresponding to a modulation signal to the optical waveguide; and a bias electrode for applying an electric field corresponding to a DC bias to the optical waveguide, in which in order to reduce capture of electric noise by the bias electrode, with respect to at least a part of the bias electrode, a plurality of electrode portions (b11, b12) are formed in at least one (B1) of the pair of electrodes by folding back one electric line.

    Abstract: An optical element module includes an optical modulation element having first and second optical modulator units, a polarization combining means for combining two modulated lights which are emitted from the first and second optical modulator units, by making planes of polarization orthogonally cross each other; a housing which houses the optical modulation element and the polarization combining means; and a lens holder which holds a collimating lens which is disposed between the polarization combining means and an optical fiber, with the lens holder further holding the optical fiber. The optical element module is configured by joining the housing and the lens holder together by welding. In the lens holder, an outer diameter of a welding place is smaller than an outer diameter of a part which holds the collimating lens.

    Abstract: Provided is an optical modulator including: a relay substrate; a first transmission line that is provided on a flat surface of the relay substrate, and transmits, along the flat surface of the relay substrate, an electrical signal that has been input from an outer side; a second transmission line that is provided in the relay substrate, and transmits the electrical signal in a direction that is not included in the flat surface; a modulation unit that modulates an optical signal by using the electrical signal that is transmitted by the first transmission line and the second transmission line; and a shield that shields a radiation component of the electrical signal that is radiated from a contact of the first transmission line and the second transmission line.

    Abstract: In a waveguide-type optical element, broaderband operation becomes possible.The waveguide-type optical element includes optical waveguides (110 and 112) formed on a substrate (100) having an electro-optic effect and a control electrode for controlling an optical wave that is transmitted through the optical waveguide, the control electrode comprises a central electrode (104) and ground electrodes (106 and 108), the central electrode being formed along the optical waveguide, and the ground electrodes being formed so as to put the central electrode therebetween in a surface direction of the substrate at a predetermined distance from the central electrode, and the central electrode or the ground electrodes have multiple pairs of facets, each comprising two facets facing each other, along a transmission direction of high-frequency signals that are transmitted through the central electrode and the ground electrodes.

    Abstract: An optical waveguide element includes a substrate having an electro-optic effect, an optical waveguide formed in the substrate, and a control electrode arranged on the substrate to modulate a light wave propagating through the optical waveguide. The control electrode includes a signal electrode and a ground electrode. The signal electrode and the ground electrode are arranged along a modulation effect portion of the optical waveguide that performs modulation. In a shape of a bottom surface of the ground electrode facing the substrate, a slit separating the ground electrode into a first ground electrode close to the signal electrode and a second ground electrode far from the signal electrode is formed in a range corresponding to the modulation effect portion.

    Abstract: An optical device includes a connection pad, which is connected to a conductor pattern on the circuit substrate, at one edge. The connection pad includes one ground pad, and two or more signal pads between which the ground pad is interposed from its both sides. The ground pad includes a concave portion including an opening at the edge. The circuit substrate is provided with a metal columnar member in the conductor pattern to which the ground pad is connected. The conductor pattern and the connection pad are fixed to each other with solder in a state in which the columnar member is fitted into the concave portion. Solder, which gradually rises from the ground pattern to a lateral surface of the columnar member, is formed between the columnar member and the ground pattern that is formed in the flexible printed circuit.

    Abstract: Provided is an optical modulator in which low-voltage drive and a stable modulation characteristic are secured over a wide bandwidth. An optical modulator includes: a substrate 10; an optical waveguide (not shown) formed in the substrate 10; a modulation electrode (a signal electrode 11 and a ground electrode 12) for modulating light waves propagating through the optical waveguide; and an external signal line (not shown, only a connection connector 4 is shown) which is provided outside the substrate and supplies a modulation signal to the modulation electrode, in which an impedance value of the modulation electrode in an active region S in which an electric field formed by the modulation electrode is applied to the optical waveguide is set to be lower than an impedance value of the external signal line, and an impedance adjustment part 21 having an impedance adjustment function with respect to mainly a modulation signal in a low-frequency area and configured of a lumped-constant circuit, and an impedance matching line L having an impedance adjustment function with respect to mainly a modulation signal in a high-frequency area are disposed between the external signal line and the active region of the modulation electrode.
