Abstract:
A mobile terminal includes a user interface specified at least in part by a user. The mobile terminal includes a user interface specification unit that operates in accordance with a programmed data processor to select, in cooperation with the user, at least one trigger and an action, which together form a rule; to automatically generate a directory structure comprising a set of available events in accordance with a hierarchical information model; to select, in cooperation with the user, at least one trigger value from the available set of events and to define an action to be performed by the mobile terminal in responsive to the at least one trigger value being satisfied.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus and computer program configured to perform the method, the method comprising: enabling an apparatus to provide an alert in response to the occurrence of an event wherein; when the apparatus is determined to be in a particular context a first alert is provided and when the apparatus is determined not to be in the particular context a second, user defined, alert is provided.
Abstract:
A computer program embodied in a computer readable medium in a mobile station MS includes instructions to display a first identifier, such as a song title, associated with a first media (music or video) file and a second identifier identified with a second media file. The first identifier indicates that the first media file is stored in the MS and the second identifier indicates that the file is not stored within the MS. Five such identifiers are disclosed, with functionality to up/download the media files one or more at a time from a PC or a networked server. Playlists and albums may be similarly indicated in their identifiers. The user is enabled to create and edit playlists on the MS without regard to what media files are stored on the MS. The MS may store file identifiers for the database maintained on the PC, a large-scale database maintained at a media service server, or a portion thereof. A mobile station is also described.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide in part a method to conduct a search for information in a network. The method includes operating a user interface of a device to initiate the sending of a search request via a first channel; and indicating via the user interface selectively whether received information from at least one local source via a second channel is to be included as at least a part of the search. The embodiments of the invention further provide a node of a communication system, where the node includes a transmitter for communicating to a receiver of a device during mobility of the device, and where the node is operable for transmitting a predetermined search word set to the receiver for use by the device for composing a search request to a search engine.
Abstract:
A method includes determining, in response to focus being set on a link referencing a resource, one or more properties of the resource referenced by the link. Data is selected corresponding to one or more of a plurality of tactile feedback patterns based on the properties. Tactile feedback is enabled corresponding to the one or more tactile feedback patterns based at least in part on the data. An electronic device includes memories having a set of instructions and processors coupled to the memories. The processors are configured by the instructions to determine, in response to focus being set on a link referencing a resource, properties of the resource referenced by the link, to select data corresponding to one or more tactile feedback patterns based on the properties, and to enable tactile feedback corresponding to the one or more tactile feedback patterns.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for modification of a speech signal indicative of a stream of speech data having a plurality of syllables. The method comprises the steps of mapping the stream of speech data from the speech signal into a stream of tone data according to a linguistic rule regarding the syllables for providing a tone signal indicative of the stream of tone data; forming a string of musical notes responsive to the tone signal for providing a carrier signal indicative of the string of musical notes; modulating the carrier signal with the speech signal for providing a modified signal; and providing an audible signal representative of the speech signal, musically modified according to the linguistic rule. The linguistic rule includes an assignment of a tone to a syllable of the speech data based on a vowel of the syllable, a consonant of the syllable, the intonation of the syllable for a monosyllabic language. The musically modified speech signal can be used to indicate an incoming telephone call, a message left on a telephone, a scheduled event, or the like.
Abstract:
A method of giving the user information on the operation of a portable device, and a portable device. In the method, an event that concerns the operation of the device and interests the user is detected by the control means of the device. If at least one silent alarm pattern producing a tactile sensation in the user is attached to the event, the user is given abstract information on the operation of the device by using at least one silent alarm pattern implemented with the alarm device and sensed by the user. Various alarm patterns differ from one another such that at least one alarm pattern characteristic sensed by the user varies. The characteristic can be the alarm pattern frequency, amplitude, changing rate of the amplitude, changing rate of the frequency or duration of the alarm pattern. One way to perform a silent alarm is vibration. The user interface is particularly intended for users with impaired hearing and/or vision.
Abstract:
There is provided a portable device, comprising: control means for monitoring and controlling the operation of the device; and a user interface which comprises alarm means for performing a silent alarm producing a silent, invisible, tactile sensation in the user; the control means are arranged to give the user abstract information on multiple internal operational events of the device by using various silent alarm patterns of silent, invisible sensations produced by the alarm means and sensed by the user, the alarm patterns differing from one another such that at least one alarm pattern characteristic sensed by the user varies, said abstract information comprising a notification of a specific internal operational event of the device.
Abstract:
A method for a portable apparatus includes detecting a movement of the portable apparatus, and determining that the movement is associated with a user input for retrieving a value of a status of the portable apparatus; determining a value of the status; and presenting the value to the user. Corresponding portable apparatuses and computer program product are also presented.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and software are presented for a device to provide information about operation of a button during operation of the button. The button performs a first action if the button has been operated a first way, and performs a second alternative action if the button has instead been operated a second way. The user is provided with information, during the operation of the button, indicative of the second way.
