    摘要: A recording apparatus including a movable carriage, wherein a plurality of mounting positions are arranged in a moving direction of the carriage, a light receiving portion capable of receiving light emitted by a light emitting portion of a plurality of liquid containers, a determining means for determining whether a correct liquid container is mounted at a mounting position based on a light receiving amount received by the light receiving portion, and a specifying means for specifying an incorrectly mounted liquid container based on the light receiving amount received by the light receiving portion, wherein the specifying means stops the carriage such that any mounting position with the incorrectly mounted liquid container is opposite the light receiving portion, and wherein if a plurality of liquid containers are determined to be incorrectly mounted, the light emitting portion of the incorrectly mounted liquid containers emit light in a specific order.

    摘要: An ink jet recording apparatus is provided with a conveying roller for conveying a recording sheet, and a carriage that enables a recording head for recording on the recording sheet by discharging ink droplets to the recording sheet to reciprocate in the direction intersecting the conveying direction of the recording medium along a guide shaft having a substantially circular lateral section. The bearing portion of the carriage is structured to be in contact with the guide shaft at two points A and B on the upstream side and downstream side in the aforesaid conveying direction with respect to the vertical line running through the center of the guide shaft. Each of angles θa and θb formed in the directions of tangential line and vertical line on the outer circumference of the guide shaft at the contact points A and B is set to make the frictional force generated between the guide shaft and the bearing portion larger than the force generated at the time of the carriage being accelerated to cause the bearing portion to slide in the circumferential direction of the guide shaft.

    摘要: An ink detecting device capable of detecting the amount of ink in an ink tank uses a light emitting device to shine light toward a transparent member in a wall of the ink tank. The ink tank is used in a recording apparatus and is moved relative to a recording medium as a recording head ejects ink onto the recording medium A light receiving member receives light reflected on an inner surface of the transparent member when ink is not in contact with that surface. However, if ink is in contact with the inner surface, no light is reflected to the light receiving member. Thus, a reliable indication of the presence of ink in a movable ink tank, or plural movable ink tanks, can be obtained in the absence of physical contact therewith.

    摘要: A wheel for maintaining a constant distance between an ink discharge plane of a recording head and a recording sheet is provided on a carriage such that it is upstream of the recording head as viewed in the direction of movement of the recording head in a unidirectional print mode. A sensor monitors whether the recording sheet is moved off a contact of a feed roller which feeds the recording sheet to a record position and a pinch roller. Before a trailing edge of the recording sheet is moved off the contact of the feed roller and the pinch roller, bilateral recording is conducted to print in each of forward movement and backward movement of the carriage. When the sensor detects that the trailing edge of the recording sheet has been moved off the contact of the feed roller and the pinch roller, the recording is switched to unilateral printing. The print range at the trailing edge of the recording medium is thus extended.
