Abstract:
A tool housing and method for making the same are disclosed. The tool housing can include upper and middle portions that are fully machined and coupled to one another. The tool housing can also include a lower housing that is partially machined, coupled to the remaining housing portions, and then fully machined. In doing so, the machining operation is eased and the portions of the housing are better aligned with one another.
Abstract:
A printed circuit board (PCB) for motor and display control of a tool. The PCB is disposed within a housing portion of the tool substantially perpendicular to a display assembly of the tool. The PCB includes integrated switches adapted to engage corresponding buttons of the display assembly. The housing portion and display assembly including features to restrict movement of the PCB relative to the housing portion.
Abstract:
A hand tool, such as a motorized cordless ratchet wrench, is configured for reducing part count and reducing assembly processes. The hand tool includes a clamshell housing that may be fastened to a drive member such as a ratchet head assembly without the use of additional fasteners such as large clamp nuts or additional screw sets, for example. One or more protrusions extending inwardly from the clamshell housing engage similarly shaped voids in the ratchet head assembly. The protrusions tightly engage the ratchet head housing when the clamshell housing portions are fastened together.
Abstract:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a ratchet with housing, according to an embodiment of the invention; FIG. 2 is a first side view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is a second side view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1; FIG. 4 is a third side view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1; FIG. 5 is a fourth side view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1; FIG. 6 is a first end view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1; and, FIG. 7 is a second end view of the ratchet with housing of FIG. 1. The broken lines are included for the purpose of illustrating portions of the ratchet with housing and form no part of the claimed design.
Abstract:
An impact mechanism for an impact tool having a housing with a housing longitudinal axis, wherein the impact mechanism includes an impact mechanism longitudinal axis that is offset and substantially perpendicular to the housing longitudinal axis. The impact mechanism includes a gear carrier adapted to be driven by a motor of the impact tool to rotate about the impact mechanism longitudinal axis, a hammer slidably coupled to the gear carrier and rotatable about the impact mechanism longitudinal axis, the hammer includes a radial surface with a hammer lug extending therefrom, and an intermediate bit adapted to receive impact force from the hammer lug and transfer impact force to a tool bit.
Abstract:
A flexible head joint for a tool, such as a motorized ratcheting-type tool. The flexible joint also allows an output mechanism of the tool, such as a ratchet head, to be disposed at an angle with respect to a housing to the tool, which houses a motor. For example, the first shaft is pivotably coupled to a first connector, which may have a tongue shaped portion. The second shaft is pivotably coupled to a second connector, which may have a slotted portion adapted to receive the tongue portion. This provides two pivot points that have parallel axes.
Abstract:
An illumination source disposed in a housing of a tool without the need for fasteners or snaps. The illumination source includes a number illumination elements, such as LEDs, disposed on a circuit board. A lens and the housing cooperatively direct light emitted by the illumination elements away from a user's eyes during use of the tool.

Abstract:
A motorized hand tool, such as a cordless ratchet wrench, is configured for reducing part count and reducing assembly processes. The motorized hand tool includes an overmolded window for a light emitting diode (LED) in a clamshell housing. An LED is secured within the clamshell housing by conductors extending from the LED that are encapsulated in rigid sleeves. The rigid sleeves provide a friction fit in a channel between fingers molded in the clamshell housing. A switch assembly of the motorized hand tool is mounted in the clamshell housing and covers channel to contains the conductors and sleeves. By containment of the rigid sleeves and conductors, the LED is located securely in the overmolded window.
Abstract:
An impact mechanism for an impact tool that includes a housing, a piston slidably disposed in the housing and adapted to transfer impact force to a tool bit, and electromagnetic coils disposed between the piston and the housing. The electromagnetic coils are alternately activated to generate respective magnetic fields to cause the piston to move within the housing.
