Abstract: A tool with two sequential gear trains and gear carrier assemblies adapted to be recessed into internal gears. The internal gear assembly also prevents rotation of the internal gear assembly relative to a housing of the tool. For example, the internal gear assembly can include a first gear train and second gear train sequentially coupled to the first gear train, wherein a first ring gear and first planet gears of the first gear train are substantially similar to a second ring gear and second planet gears of the second gear train.

Abstract: A motorized hand tool such as a cordless ratchet wrench that has a motor, and a housing that encloses or houses the motor. The motor includes one or more exhaust ports that expel exhaust air out of the motor. The housing includes one or more exhaust ports and inwardly projecting protrusions or deflectors that extend around the exhaust ports. The inwardly projecting protrusions/deflectors extend in a direction towards the motor exhaust ports, and/or are at least partially disposed in the motor exhaust ports to direct exhaust air out of the housing and prevent exhaust air from recirculating near the motor and electronic components of the tool.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a motor timeout of a power tool. When a trigger of the tool is unintentionally actuated, power is provided to a motor of the tool to cause an output assembly of the tool to operate. This can be problematic when the tool is being stored. To address this situation, the tool initiates or starts a motor timer when the motor is running at any nonzero speed. If the trigger remains continuously actuated, with the motor running at any nonzero speed, and the motor timer reaches a threshold limit, the tool ceases or discontinues to allow power to be provided to the motor, thereby shutting off the motor. This reduces the power source from being unintentionally discharged, and the chance of the tool creating a situation where the output assembly can unintentionally cause damage to the storage mechanism or other surroundings.

Abstract: A power tool, such as a cordless power ratchet, with a multi-speed gear train is described. A gearbox may use a planetary gearset with a shifting ring gear coupled with a set of compound gears that allows the user to change the output speed of the tool by altering the total gear ratio of the gearbox. A first stage may include a planetary gearset with a shifting ring gear. A second stage may include a set of compound gears whose output connects to the tool's driving mechanism. The exemplary gearbox may allow the user more control over the output during tool operation. A cordless ratchet with a multi-speed geartrain may allow the user to generate high levels of torque to remove a fastener (i.e., making the tool operate at a lower speed), and allow the user to remove the fastener quicker by increasing the speed of the tool.
