    摘要: In exemplary embodiments a storage control unit is able to provide and track priority control among virtual ports created for corresponding physical ports and/or volume groups made up of one or more volumes, and thereby ensure application of priority settings. According to exemplary embodiments, when a virtual port created for a physical port on a first storage control unit is transferred to another physical port, such as in the same storage control unit or on another storage control unit, priority settings on the first physical port and storage control unit are checked and transferred with the virtual port to the other physical port to prevent competition for priority by virtual ports at the destination physical port. Similarly, priority settings assigned to volume groups may also be transferred when a volume group is transferred to another physical port within a storage control unit or to a different storage control unit.

When the storage system determines that the inter-unit network will be required if the transfer takes place, the storage system determines and presents an alternate storage control unit for the transfer to avoid use of the inter-unit network, thereby avoiding degraded performance.

Alternatively, to split copy data of a locally-stored global file system amongst multiple remote NAS systems, the local NAS system replaces specified directories with referrals, and sends the referrals with the data to one of the remote NAS systems. Then, the local NAS system sends files and directories under the directories replaced with referrals to one or more other remote NAS systems as referred to by the referrals.

    摘要: An apparatus, system, and method by which, if hard disk drives used within disk array systems are removed and installed in another disk array system or attempted to be accessed by another device, data in the hard disk drives cannot be accessed. In one embodiment, a disk array system sets a password onto each hard disk drive. The hard disk drives reject access from disk array systems or computer systems until a correct password is input. In alternative embodiments, hard disk drives memorize one or more World Wide Names (WWNs) of the disk array system. After memorizing a WWN, the hard disk drives allow access only from the disk array system having the same WWN as the one that the hard disk drives memorized. Thus, the hard disk drives are normally inaccessible after they are removed from a disk array system.
