摘要: A user interface and method for composing services in a ubiquitous computing environment through direction and selection operators is presented. A display of a ubiquitous computing environment is presented. One or more hosts operating in the ubiquitous computing environment is represented with host symbols. Components in the ubiquitous computing environment coupled to each of the hosts are represented with one or more component symbols per host symbol. Each such component provides a service or includes a device or aggregate component. The host symbols and the component symbols are navigated in response to user inputs. A direction operator provides a focus in the display on either one of the host symbols or one of the component symbols. A selection operator performed against either one of the host symbols or one of the component symbols triggers a service- or device-oriented task comprising one of discovery, selection, connection, and control.

摘要: An apparatus and method for making a composite packaging material for easy-open packages includes means for pulling a running length of packaging film, the film having defined rupture characteristics. The packaging film is perforated with a sequence of spaced apart at least one perforation separated from another at a substantially constant fixed interval between adjacent ones of the sequence along the length of the film. A tape with a continuously extending dry edge is formed from a continuous supply of tape and tape pieces are formed and spaced apart along the length of the film. Successive discrete pieces of tape are adhered to the packaging film in overlying sealing relationship to successive ones of the sequence of at least one perforation.

摘要: A fiber optic connection panel including a plurality of circuits. The circuits are accessed through termination locations. Preferably, IN and OUT termination locations are located on a first side of the panel during normal through operation. A switch included in the circuitry disconnects the IN and OUT circuit paths on the first side, and connects each of the termination locations to further termination locations, located on an opposite side of the panel in a patched state. Preferably, at least one of the circuit paths includes a monitor circuit. A chassis is provided including a plurality of circuit modules mounted to the chassis, wherein the circuit modules contain circuitry with exposed termination locations wherein the circuitry allows normal through and patched circuit paths selectively linking different termination locations.

摘要: A system and method for providing self-installing software components for network service execution is presented. A basic communication framework is established with a service host system executing a network service software component to provide a network service. Availability of the network service software component is determined and prerequisites against a runtime environment are verified through the service host system. A code bundle providing the network service software component through the service host system logically grouped with installation instructions for the network service software component is executed.

摘要: An Internet-scale file sharing system includes a client-side file sharing application that allows file-sharing users to identify files to share and transmit metadata corresponding to those files to a metadata repository. A server-side application operating on the metadata repository tracks metadata received from associated file-sharing users, as well as metadata from other affiliated metadata repositories. Each metadata repository acts as a search engine for any querying users and can provide search results based on locally stored metadata alone. Each metadata repository may additionally choose to locally-store popular files from an associated file-sharing user so as to alleviate transmission burdens on that file-sharing user. Associated metadata repositories each periodically synchronize their stored metadata so that all metadata repositories may generate similar search results. In such manner, file-sharing queries need only be performed by the metadata repository receiving the query, and not by all associated metadata repositories.

摘要: A method of delivering an audio video asset is described. The method includes: receiving an order specifying an audio video asset to be delivered and a delivery destination for the audio video asset, wherein a delivery destination represents one or more physical delivery recipients; determining delivery paths representing different delivery technologies that could be used to deliver the audio video asset to the delivery destination; retrieving a set of path capacity timelines for the delivery paths, wherein path capacity timelines in the set of path capacity timelines each model a quantity of available capacity varying over time; processing the path capacity timelines to yield delivery path capacities; applying an allocation algorithm to the delivery path capacities to yield candidate delivery allocations, wherein candidate delivery allocations each includes one or more time periods during which one or more time periods a defined quantity of capacity can be allocated for delivery of the audio video asset; applying a cost function to the candidate delivery allocations to yield cost values, wherein the cost values each represent a cost of delivering the audio video asset according to the candidate delivery allocations; calculating scores for the candidate delivery allocations in dependence on a cost value for that candidate delivery allocation and one or more other objectives; selecting a candidate delivery allocation having a lowest score to yield a selected candidate delivery allocation; and delivering the audio video asset according to the selected candidate delivery allocation. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
