    摘要: Sealing apparatus between inner and outer coaxial rotating shafts in which two sealing rings sealingly contact each other along confronting circumferential surfaces. In a position of rest, the rings surround the inner shaft with a predetermined circumferential sealing clearance of rotational symmetry. The sealing rings are supported in axially resilient manner between radial walls of a housing secured to the outer shaft which walls partly span the distance between the shafts. The sealing rings are pivotally connected to the housing for movement about pivot axes which are preferably 180.degree. apart from each other and, under the action of centrifugal force during rotation of the outer shaft, the rings pivot laterally towards surfaces of the housing to take up predetermined outer circumferential clearances of rotational symmetry between the outer periphery of the rings and the housing. The sealing rings are held in the housing by resilient elements which bias the rings into positions in which all clearances are rotationally symmetrical in the position of rest.

In order to improve the service life of the chain wheel arrangement, at least one of the bearings, preferably that of the movable bearing system, is arranged in a bearing bush which is arranged between the bearing shell and outer bearing ring and received in the bearing shell in an axially displaceable manner. The additional bearing bush allows the necessary gap between the rotating parts and the non-co-rotating, bearing shell-side parts to remain substantially constant and to this extent to become independent of the bearing play of the respective bearings.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for minimizing and maintaining substantially constant the effective blade tip clearance between the outer free ends of rotor blades and an adjacent casing shroud of an axial-flow turbine of a gas turbine engine. The casing shroud includes a portion facing the hot gas stream and the outer rotor blade ends and a packing of high heat-resistance, high erosion-resistance ceramic elements secured to the shroud via a metal ring to face the blade tips. A heat insulator is interposed between the packing and the metal ring. A perforated conduit is mounted outside the metal ring for blowing cooling fluid against the metal ring on the side thereof remote from the insulator for equalizing the expansion of the metal ring to that of the turbine wheel. The ceramic packing includes projections facing the outer ends of the blades which are tapered so that they are easily broken off when coming into contact with the blades during running-in of the apparatus.
