Abstract: An inverter coupled to an electrical power grid characterizes the electrical power grid. The inverter outputs a plurality of electrical signals of different frequencies to the electrical power grid, measures responses of the electrical power grid to the plurality of electrical signals to obtain measurement data, and processes the measurement data to generate prediction data that characterizes one or more fault conditions of the electrical power grid. The inverter adjusts an operational setting of the inverter based on the prediction data. The operational setting affects a response of the electrical power grid to a fault condition.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for electric grid modeling and simulation. One of the methods includes, obtaining a model of an electrical power system; executing a simulation of the model including by separately simulating, in parallel, behaviors of the electric power system during each of a consecutive series of time periods to provide individual simulation results for each time period, where the consecutive series of time periods together represent a simulation time frame over which the behaviors of the electric power system are simulated; combining the individual simulation results into a simulation output for the simulation time frame; and providing, for display, the simulation output.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for determining optimal grid interconnections. A power grid model that includes a topological representation of a power grid and electrical specifications of grid components can be accessed. First interconnection data representing a first proposed interconnection to the power grid can be obtained. At least one other proposed interconnection to the power grid can be selected. A modified power grid model can be generated at least by incorporating the first proposed interconnection and the at least one other proposed interconnection into the power grid model. A simulation of the power grid can be executed using the modified power grid model to obtain simulated power grid data. A combined impact of the first proposed interconnection and the at least one other proposed interconnection on the power grid can be determined from the simulated power grid data.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method executed by one or more processors includes receiving interconnection data for a proposed interconnection to a power grid; accessing a power grid model including a topological representation of the power grid, electrical specifications of grid components, and empirical operation characteristics; and generating, using the interconnection data for the proposed interconnection to the power grid, and the power grid model, simulated power grid data. The simulated power grid data is based on simulating operation of the power grid with the proposed interconnection coupled to a location of the power grid identified by the interconnection data during a simulated time period. The simulated power grid data includes a plurality of different temporal and spatially dependent characteristics of the power grid. The method includes evaluating, using one or more metrics, the simulated power grid data; and outputting evaluation results of the one or more metrics.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs stored on a computer-readable storage medium, for obtaining a reference phase signal that is synchronized with an alternating current (AC) phase of a multi-phase electrical power distribution system. The apparatus obtains output signals from sensors, each output signal representative of an electromagnetic emission detected by a respective sensor. The apparatus identifies, based on comparing respective phases of the output signals to the reference phase signal, a particular AC phase of the multi-phase electrical power distribution system associated with a source of the emissions. The apparatus provides an indication of the particular AC phase to a user.
