Abstract:
Systems and methods according to the present invention provide techniques to automatically crop an image to a desired size. Automating the cropping process, while at the same time providing a high quality, cropped image, can be accomplished by employing a comprehensive approach that includes one or more of contextual cropping (e.g., basing cropping decisions on elements within the image to be cropped itself), training the cropping mechanism (e.g., using previously cropped versions of the same image or related images) and multiple operational modes (e.g., selecting one of a plurality of different cropping techniques for cropping a particular image).
Abstract:
Methods, systems and machine-readable instructions for constraining layout variations for accommodating variable content in electronic documents are described. In one aspect, explicit logical blocks extracted from the electronic document are received. Each of the explicit logical blocks corresponds to a content region of the electronic document assigned a respective content style. Layout relationships among the explicit logical blocks are determined. Based on the layout relationships, rules constraining layout variations among implicit logical blocks to approximate the electronic document in appearance while accommodating variable content are generated. Each of the implicit logical blocks corresponds to a respective one of the explicit logical blocks and accommodates variable content having the content style assigned to the corresponding explicit logical block. The rules are stored in a machine-readable medium.
Abstract:
Embodiments enable searching of portions of objects in images, including programmatically analyzing each image in a collection in order to determine image data that, for individual images in the collection, represents one or more visual characteristics of a portion of an object shown in that image. A user is enabled to specify one or more search criteria that includes image data, and a search result may be determined based on one or more images in the collection that show a corresponding object that has a portion that satisfies a threshold. The threshold is defined at least in part by the one or more search criteria.
Abstract:
A system and method of selective sampling for sound signal classification is disclosed. The method of the present invention discloses the elements of: receiving a sound signal; specifying meta-data to be extracted from the sound signal; dividing the sound signal into a set of frames; applying a fitness function to the frames to create a set of fitness data; selecting a frame from the set of frames, if the frame's corresponding fitness datum within the set of fitness data exceeds a predetermined threshold value; extracting the meta-data from the selected frames; and classifying the sound signal based on the meta-data extracted from the selected frames. The system of the present invention discloses means for implementing the method.
Abstract:
Systems and methods according to the present invention provide techniques to automatically crop an image to a desired size and non-rectangular crop shape. A non-rectangular crop shape can, for example, be input to an image processing system. The non-rectangular crop shape is then used to process the original image to generate the desired crop.
Abstract:
A method and system for automatically producing a page using frames of a video stream. A plurality of video frames from a video stream or clip are read, and multiple frames are extracted from the video stream, based on the content of each frame. Frames which neighbor the extracted frames in the video stream are also extracted, with the number of neighboring frames to be extracted being controlled by parameters provided to the page production system. The resolution of the images in the extracted video frames is enhanced, based on the information in each extracted frame and each respective extracted neighboring frame. The enhanced images are automatically cropped to enhance the important features in each image, and the cropped images are composed into one or more pages that are representative of the content of the video stream.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for estimating device availability in a pervasive peer to peer environment is presented. The method and apparatus include a linear estimation approach and a bin estimation approach, where the bin estimation approach may include enhanced bin estimation or adaptive bin estimation. A central node queries available contacted devices and builds a history of times and availability indications for the contacted device, and subsequently computes an availability probability curve based on assumptions regarding the availability indications and the time since the last received availability indication.

Abstract:
A system includes an image analysis module that is configured to programmatically analyze individual images in a collection of images in order to determine information about each image in the collection. The system may also include a manual interface that is configured to (i) interface with one or more human editors, and (ii) displays a plurality of panels concurrently. Individual panels may be provided for one or more analyzed images, and individual panels may be configured to display information that is at least indicative of the one or more images of that panel and/or of the information determined from the one or more images.
Abstract:
Methods, machines, systems and machine-readable instructions for producing marketing items are described. In one aspect, a user is prompted to specify campaign parameters, including one or more campaign topics, defining a scope of the campaign. The user is prompted to specify for each of the one or more campaign topics a corresponding set of one or more attributes of intended recipients of the marketing campaign. The one or more specified campaign topics are associated to respective sets of targeted recipients selected from a database of records of potential recipients based on mappings of the respective sets of recipient attributes to the campaign topics and the specified campaign parameters defining the scope of the marketing campaign. For each of the targeted recipients, a respective marketing item containing a respective set of one or more contents matched to the campaign topic associated to the targeted recipient is composed.
