    Abstract: An automotive neon-type discharge lamp assembly is provided including two spaced-apart electrodes; an elongated gaseous path having one of the electrodes approximately at each respective end, the path including a first generally semicircular reflector surface body having opposing ends and a center, a pair of second semiparabolic reflector surfaces, each surface having first and second ends, the first ends being joined to the ends of the first reflector surface and the second ends emanating outwardly therefrom; a transparent, generally concave volumetric concentrator positioned generally opposite the first reflector surface and spaced therefrom, the concentrator having first and second ends; and a transparent cover having two segments, each segment connecting an end of the concentrator with the second end of a respective second reflector surface.

    Abstract: A low pressure gas discharge lamp of the capillary bore type is equipped with a temperature control system whereby the electrode containment section and the light output section of the lamp are at higher temperatures than the capillary bore section. Vapor flow from the higher temperature sections to the relatively low capillary bore section maintains a satisfactory vapor fill in the bore section for attainment of a high light output. In one arrangement, the temperature control system includes a heater and a heat sink at selected points along the lamp envelope. In another form of the invention, the control system is solely a heat sink in thermal contact with the capillary bore section.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure sodium lamp provided with an elongate discharge vessel in which the pressure P in the operative condition of the lamp is at least 170.times.10.sup.3 Pa. The lamp is suitable to be operated with a power of periodically alternating value, which power comprises at least one component having a frequency .nu..sub.i which satisfies i-0.45.ltoreq.2.35.nu..sub.i Le/e.ltoreq.i+0.45 where i is an integral positive number, c is the speed of sound in the gaseous part of the filling and L.sub.e is the effective length of the discharge vessel. According to the invention, the relation is satisfied: M.nu..sub.i .multidot.f.sub.i .multidot.P.multidot.d .ltoreq.185, in which M.nu..sub.i is the modulation depth of the power component having a frequency .nu..sub.i, f.sub.i is a geometric lamp factor and d the average inner diameter of the discharge vessel. In this manner, the operation of the lamp is free of arc instabilities due to longitudinal acoustic resonances.
