Abstract:
A rotary cut-off tool has a hand-held housing. The housing has an open end centered on an axis and a housing abutment surface facing axially outward of the open end. A motor within the housing has an output shaft. A guard has a guard flange with a mounting hole. An arbor is configured to extend axially from the shaft through the mounting hole. A cut-off disk is receivable on the arbor. A spring has an installed position compressively engaged by and between the housing abutment surface and the guard flange, such that the spring releasably restrains the guard from swiveling about the axis.

In one embodiment, the fixture includes a two piece construction that allows a first piece to be swung away from the second piece to accommodate a variety of sizes of workpieces. Provision is also made for a positive load on the cutting tool to reduce or eliminate tool vibration, as well as a chip shield that deflects debris away from the workpiece. A tool spindle is provided that allows for a plurality of cutting tool positions on the spindle to accommodate different workpiece diameters.

In order to further develop a device for the machining of the ends of tubes for producing a welding joint comprising a housing which can be secured on the end of the tube to be machined and on which a rotatingly drivable shaft is mounted, and comprising a rotary unit non-rotatably arranged on the shaft with a radially adjustable tool slide, on which a cutting plate is held, in such a manner that the welding joint can be produced in a shorter machining time and with a high-standard surface quality it is provided in accordance with the invention for the tool slide to be adjustable continuously in a radial direction, wherein the radial adjustment of the tool slide is coupled to the rotary movement of the shaft via gear means, and for the cutting plate to be held on the tool slide so as to be adjustable axially, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft.
Abstract:
A metal bonded drilling and boring tool which can prevent the separation of abrasive grains during drilling and boring to maintain a stable working performance for a long period of time without the need for tool exchange. The tool includes a rod-shaped body having a substantially semispherical front end portion and numerous abrasive grains bonded to an outer circumferential surface of the rod-shaped body at the front end portion and at a portion having a given length from the front end portion by a bond member formed primarily of copper alloy. The bond member contains a material selected from the group consisting of Ti, Al, and a mixture thereof. The copper alloy is selected from the group consisting of bronze containing 10 to 33 wt % of Sn, brass containing 5 to 20 wt % of Zn, and aluminum bronze containing 5 to 20 wt % of Al.
Abstract:
A material shaping machine has a frame, a work-piece holder and a tool holder, for rotatably holding a tool. A computer performs real-time tool path calculations based upon stored mathematical representations of a desired work-piece surface and stored mathematical representations of an actual tool geometry, by calculating a desired position of a tool cutting edge relative a measured position of the tool cutting edge and a measured position of the work-piece, and adjusting a distance between the desired tool cutting edge and the measured position of the tool cutting edge in a first direction, so that the tool cutting edge reaches the desired position. Manipulation means provide a relative movement of the work-piece and the tool cutting surface in a second direction and a third direction. The manipulation means are operated outside the computer control. Sensors determine the position of the work-piece relative the cutting surface of the tool and send the position data to the computer.

Abstract:
There is proposed an apparatus for machining pipe ends having a motor, a gearing assembly, and a clamping means for clamping a pipe end to be machined on the apparatus, the apparatus having a hollow rod, a tool support with a tool holder, characterized by the fact that the motor and the gearing assembly are arranged alongside of each other and that all units with the exception of the tool support are surrounded by a housing and thus form a compact and handy arrangement, and that the housing has a bottom surface which serves as standing surface and simplifies the handling of the device. The tool holder is provided with a cutting plate which is developed as turnable tip which has at least two active cutting edges.
Abstract:
A tube squaring tool includes a housing having forward and rearward end areas and a tubular workpiece clamping device located at the forward end area for securing and retaining a tubular workpiece relative to the housing so that the end of the workpiece can be machined by a rotary cutting head carried by the housing and movable towards and away from the end of the workpiece by manipulation of a feed mechanism. The tubular workpiece clamping device includes a pair of saddle members carried within a saddle mounting ring with one of the saddle members being frictionally secured within the mounting ring using a detent mechanism and the other saddle member being movable relative to the mounting ring and the opposing saddle member by a threaded connector that enables clamping of a tubular workpiece between the saddle members when the moveable saddle member is moved in a clamping direction towards the opposed fixed saddle member. Interchangeability of the saddle members to accommodate different size workpieces is facilitated by the friction coupling between one of the saddle members and the mounting ring and the saddle members are configured so that they may be readily removed and replaced through a radial retaining projection located on the forward end of the mounting ring.
Abstract:
A brake lathe includes a set of rotor cutting bits and a drum cutting bit. Each bit has associated therewith an encoder for measuring the displacement of the bit. The displacements as measured by the encoder are used by a controller to digitally determine various parameters such as absolute thickness of a rotor being lathed, the depth of cut into the rotor, absolute internal diameter of a drum being lathed, and the depth of cut into the drum. The lathe includes a display for displaying the values of the parameters. The lathe includes a calibration mode for calibration of either the rotor cutting or the drum cutting function of the lathe as desired.
