    摘要: An impact mechanism for use in an impact printer, to deliver a printing force to drive a character element against a platen by means of a print tip movable toward and away from the platen. A rockable bail bar having an axis of rotation substantially parallel to the axis of the platen is constrained to limited angular movement toward and away from the platen by a prime mover connected to the bail bar. A push rod interconnects the print tip and the bail bar for delivering impact forces to the platen as the bail bar is moved toward the platen. The push rod is normally of a first length and rigid delivering impact forces to the platen and is collapsible to a second length, shorter than the first length, for drawing the print tip away from the platen so as to allow the character element to be removed. A collapsing mechanism is provided to convert the push rod from the first length to the second length.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an assembly of electromagnetic actuators for the hammers of an impact printer arranged side by side and extending along a line. Each actuator comprises a first stator part formed with at least one pole piece, a second stator part formed with at least one pole piece and positioned relative to the first stator part so that the pole pieces are spaced apart so as to form a gap therebetween. A single coil is associated with one of the stator parts. Each actuator also includes an armature member formed with a body of non-magnetizable material, at least one armature element of magnetizable material and a hammer head. The armature member is supported between the stator parts so that the armature element is located adjacent to the gap. Energization of the coil causes the generation of a flux which passes across the gap and through the armature element tending to move the armature element into the gap and to cause the hammer head to move into a print position.According to the invention the components of adjacent actuators are complementary in shape so that projecting components of each actuator engage in recessed components of the adjacent actuators whereby the overall length of the assembly along the line is less than the sum of the overall widths of the individual actuators.

    摘要: A printer having a daisy type-wheel or the like comprises a carrier longitudinally movable along a platen and a carriage detachably and pivotally mounted on the carrier. Mounted on the carriage are a ribbon cartridge, the type-wheel, a hammer assembly and a magnet assembly for actuating the hammer assembly. The design of the printer permits easy and accurate positioning and adjustment of constituents of the carriage, easy and accurate attachment of the carriage to the carrier, and easy tilting of the carriage for replacement of the type-wheel. Shifting of the type-wheel is achieved rapidly and with the low vibration. The ribbon cartridge may be moved from a non-printing to a printing position easily, with low vibration and with little generation of noise. The U-shaped ribbon cartridge includes an engaging member extending from a front leg of the cartridge toward the inside of the U-shape. The engaging member cooperates with a stopper member and the engaging lugs of the cartridge cooperate with a cartridge receiving apparatus of the carriage, so as to rotatably mount the cartridge on the carriage. The stopper member of the carriage provides a means for cooperating with the engaging member of the cartridge to govern the pivoting of the cartridge into and from the printing position.

    摘要: A multiple magnet core unit for relays of teleprinters and the like has a non-magnetic cast metal frame providing an elongated platform for one or more rows of upstanding magnetic metal core fingers which are transversely spaced along the length of the platform and have integral depending anchoring tabs cast in situ in the non-magnetic metal. The fingers are U-shaped with each upstanding leg having the metal grain extending lengthwise thereof and adapted to receive a coil therearound to provide an electromagnet and with the tab depending from the bight portion of the U integrally anchored to and surrounded by the cast metal. To produce the unit, the core fingers are mounted in transverse slots of an elongated holder with the tabs on the fingers projecting beyond the holder. A pair of holders are mounted in a die casting machine to span the molding cavity and the casting is formed around the tabs. Supporting pins prevent the weight of the holders from warping the casting as it is ejected from the mold cavity. The holders are then stripped from the casting and the casting is clamped as it cools to prevent sagging or warping after the stripping operation.

    摘要: In a print hammer mechanism in which a thin, flat hammer spring is mounted at a fixed end thereof to a magnetic structure which includes a permanent magnet and a pole piece having a pole tip facing the opposite free end of the hammer spring on a side of the hammer spring opposite an impact printing tip, a pivot fulcrum is formed by an impact arrangement which faces an intermediate portion of the hammer spring between the fixed and free ends thereof. The permanent magnet normally pulls the hammer spring into a retract position in which the spring impacts and resides against the impact structure with the free end of the spring forming an air gap with the pole tip. Energization of a coil surrounding the pole piece releases the hammer spring from the retract position, enabling the spring to return toward a neutral position and then impact a printable medium such as a print paper-ink ribbon combination, following which the magnetic attraction of the permanent magnet returns the hammer spring to the retract position in which it strikes the impact structure and remains in the retract position pending the next energization of the coil. The location of the impact arrangement is such as to greatly minimize wear at its interface with the hammer spring while at the same time enhancing the release characteristics of the hammer spring.In a preferred embodiment the impact structure is formed by a secondary pole piece extending in parallel, spaced-apart relation along a portion of the length of the hammer spring from the fixed end thereof and terminating in a pole tip covered with a thin layer of Kapton.
