    摘要: The present invention relates to an assembly of electromagnetic actuators for the hammers of an impact printer arranged side by side and extending along a line. Each actuator comprises a first stator part formed with at least one pole piece, a second stator part formed with at least one pole piece and positioned relative to the first stator part so that the pole pieces are spaced apart so as to form a gap therebetween. A single coil is associated with one of the stator parts. Each actuator also includes an armature member formed with a body of non-magnetizable material, at least one armature element of magnetizable material and a hammer head. The armature member is supported between the stator parts so that the armature element is located adjacent to the gap. Energization of the coil causes the generation of a flux which passes across the gap and through the armature element tending to move the armature element into the gap and to cause the hammer head to move into a print position.According to the invention the components of adjacent actuators are complementary in shape so that projecting components of each actuator engage in recessed components of the adjacent actuators whereby the overall length of the assembly along the line is less than the sum of the overall widths of the individual actuators.

Two lubricating felt pads are arranged on opposite sides with respect to the striker hammer and are pressed against the hammer by the grip of a spring for damping the hammer vibrations during the printing cycle. The armature comprises a pivoted lever which is damped with respect to its pivot by means of a felt washer and the lever is damped on return by a helical spring on a rod with a reduced diameter center section where it is struck by a pad on the lever.

    摘要: An impact printing device having a plunger-type magnet system has an armature consisting of two joined portions which are a cylindrical principal portion and a guide portion which serves as the printing hammer. The principal portion of the armature consists of material of high magnetic permeability and carries a cylindrical peg thereon which mates with a corresponding receptacle in the printing hammer, which is comprised of non-magnetic material. The principal portion and the peg thereon terminate at sharp edges which cause the magnetic lines of force to converge at those edges thereby increasing the kinetic energy available for moving the armature during a printing stroke. A position sensor is connected to a drive circuit for the magnet system for controlling acceleration of the armature on its way to the striking point and deceleration of the armature during a return after a printing stroke in accordance with the speed of the returning armature.

    摘要: A high-speed print hammer and magnetic actuator is provided which operates with a minimum of power dissipation, can achieve high speed, and has very little flux leakage beyond the mechanical structure. The magnetic actuator is made up of two pole pieces having a high magnetic permeability, with a permanent magnet therebetween. A print hammer, also having a portion constructed of a material with a high magnetic susceptiblity, is pulled away from its unsprung position by the permanent magnet and contacts the faces of the pole pieces, providing a very low reluctance magnetic path between them. The print hammer is released from this cocked position by a pulsed electromagnetic field applied in a direction opposite that of the permanent magnet, the pulse pattern corresponding to the desired impact pattern of the print hammer. Lower drive power to the electromagnet is achieved by providing an alternate magnetic path having a reluctance intermediate between that provided by the print hammer when it is in contact with the pole faces, and the reluctance between the pole faces (i.e., through the air) when the print hammer is not in contact with the pole faces.

    摘要: A high speed mechanical impact printer using a continuously rotating print wheel. Paper label stock is contained on a supply reel and fed through a print station comprising the print wheel and a print hammer by a motor and roller means positioned beyond the print station. Substantially constant tension is maintained between the supply reel and the print station by a spring assisted tension means operating in conjunction with the supply reel. The print wheel is secured to a belt-driven, printer drive member through a compressible plastic ring. In printing, a hammer impacts the label stock and an ink ribbon against the rotating print wheel under logic control. After printing, the stock proceeds through a mechanical means which permits the operator to conveniently strip the most recently printed label from the stock backing so that he may attach it to a commercial item or the like.
