    摘要: The present invention provides an improved process for sintering particles composed of iron oxide, e.g., iron ore, combustible carbonaceous material, and water with a flux such as limestone optionally present and combining the principles of recyclng gases exiting from the burden adjacent the feed end back through the burden in a region toward the delivery end of a traveling grate as well as taking gases exiting from the burden adjacent the delivery end and passing them again through the burden near the feed end. Recycling of gases in this manner achieves desirable results such as reduction of the volume of gases handled, conditioning of the gases for removal of entrained particulate material by dust removing apparatus, and removal of entrained or volatilized organic as well as inorganic pollutants from the exhaust gas stream before discharge to the atmosphere. The process combines the advantages of both ''''hot'''' recycle and ''''cold'''' recycle.

    摘要: A highly fluxed iron oxide pellet containing about 50 percent to about 95 percent iron oxide, about 20 percent calcium oxide plus magnesium oxide, not more than 10 percent silica, not more than 2 percent alumina, the remainder incidental impurities. The ratio of the calcium oxide plus magnesium oxide to the silica plus alumina in the pellet may be from about 0.5:1 to about 4.5:1. The ratio of calcium oxide to magnesium oxide on a weight basis in the pellet is from about 90 to 10 percent to about 80 to 20 percent, respectively. The pellet of the invention is produced by forming a mix of about 60 to 95 percent iron ore concentrate, about 40 to about 5 percent flux, a binder and moisture. The mix is balled in an apparatus, for example a balling disc. The green balls are dried at a temperature not higher than 500* F. The dried green balls are fired within a temperature range of 2150* F. to 2350* F. to form pellets. The pellets are cooled to room temperature.

    摘要: A process for producing coke in polygonal shape in indirectly heated coke oven chambers which comprises applying to shaped pieces of fine-grained, including pelletized or briquetted, coal, an intimate mixture of coal and iron ore, both of fine grainsize, thereby forming a shell on said pieces before subjecting them to the coking operation. Preferably, the grain size of the coal and the iron ore are below 1 mm, the ratio of coal to iron ore in the shell 33% by weight: 67 percent by weight. The invention also comprises the polygonal coke made by the process.

    摘要: A cover for the ignition frame of a sintering apparatus is disclosed wherein the cover includes an enclosed space through which combustion air for the substantially horizontally disposed burners of the sintering apparatus is conducted. Combustion air delivered from a blower flows via a pipe to a central portion of the cover and into the enclosed space where it is preheated and cools the cover and thence flows to insulated pipes connected with the burners. In an alternate embodiment, two enclosed spaces are formed in the cover arranged in the direction of travel of a conveyor belt carrying the product to be sintered. The space arranged in the downstream direction of travel of the belt is provided with burners and the upstream space is provided with combustion air pipes.
