Abstract: There is provided a clamping apparatus for clamping railroad cars into a rotary dumper capable of inverting cars to discharge the contents. The clamp is characterized in having a jaw member pivotally mounted on one end of an extensible arm. Stationary guide means are provided for coaction with the jaw to guide it along a predetermined path. Means are also provided coacting between the support and the jaw member for tilting the jaw member so that it clears the maximum composite envelope of locomotive profiles within the opening provided in the adjacent end ring of the rotary railroad car dumper.
