Abstract:
Disclosed is a protective metal mesh glove that has no side opening, yet has a wide enough opening for the hand of the user to fit inside. A V-shaped portion of metal mesh is secured to the sides of the slit to enclose a wearer's hand with metal mesh. When a closure strap is opened, the V-shaped portion extends to its full V-shape. When the glove is fastened by tightening and securing the strap, the upper tips of the V-shaped section overlap each other, thereby securely and completely closing the glove.
Abstract:
A hologon and its method of manufacture are described. Adjacent facets of the hologon are overlapped so that the diffraction effects created by boundaries of the mask which defines the extent of the interference pattern, which is a precursor of the diffraction grating, are overlapped, thereby increasing the duty cycle.
Abstract:
A suture ring including a continuous compression ring formed of a ductile, electrically conductive material and a layer of fabric secured around the compression ring. The compression ring is dimensioned slightly larger than the circumferential surface of a heart valve upon which it is to be secured, so that the suture ring can be slipped over the heart valve to a position adjacent the circumferential surface without radial expansion of the compression ring. The compression ring is deformed inwardly by electromagnetic forming to securely clamp the heart valve while permitting relative rotation between the suture ring and heart valve.
Abstract:
A hand propelled device for lightly cultivating and mulching soil and typically for use in the home garden. The device includes a frame, a motor, and a hub assembly connected to the motor and also mounted to the frame. The hub assembly includes a shaft, a pair of hubs spaced apart on the shaft, and a plurality of beater wires pivotally mounted to each hub at radially spaced points near its outer circumference. The cultivator is supported by a single wheel mounted for free rotation between the hubs.
Abstract:
A lawn edger wheel mechanism for laterally shifting a front wheel to clear an adjustable cutting blade of the lawn edger comprises a latched detent member defining a plurality of lateral wheel positions. The wheel can be laterally guided on a carrier located by a transverse support shaft, the carrier being prevented from rotating about the shaft by engagement with the detent member, the detent member being formed on a cross member of a base of the lawn edger. A lever, pivotably mounted to the base can engage a bearing member located on the carrier between the support shaft and the detent member for convenient lateral movement of the wheel without binding of the carrier.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for admixing liquid with concentrated, shear-thinable stiff pastes of photographic processing compositions to form photographic processing solutions, in which the pastes are thinned by shear forces and contacted with the diluting liquid under turbulent mixing conditions to dissolve the concentrate in the liquid and thereby form the solution. The paste, which does not flow and resists deformation under conditions of low shear, is displaced through an orifice where conditions of high shear render it free flowing and form a stream. One or more liquid jets are directed at the stream with sufficient force to disperse the concentrate and bring about intimate contact between the liquid and the composition under turbulent mixing conditions. A static mixer then completes the dissolution of the chemicals in the liquid.
Abstract:
A puzzle includes a game board which is subdivided into a plurality of pre-designated areas. Each of the areas is bounded by an upstanding wall in which there is at least one opening. A plurality of string-like elements are connected at one end to first connecting means located in one of the areas and are adapted at the other ends to be detachably connected to respective ones of a plurality of second connecting means located separately in selected other areas.
Abstract:
A method and appliance for reducing facial wrinkles. In the method, a pressure-sensitive adhesive appliance is tightly applying to wrinkle prone areas of the human face in such a manner that the skin under the appliance is placed in a flattened and smoothed configuration. The appliance remains in place for at least four hours and then is removed in a manner to strip dead skin cells from the skin. These steps are repeated a plurality of times over a long period of time. The appliance transmits moisture at least equal to that transmitted by facial skin of a human and is comprised of a film and a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating. The film has a tensile strength and an ultimate elongation consistent with flattening and smoothening the skin. The adhesion between the adhesive and the film is greater than the adhesion between the adhesive and the skin.
Abstract:
A collapsible clothes rack comprising a rectangular frame having horizontal base and top members and vertical side members each of which may be pulled apart and separated into half members for transporting. There are also provided horizontal transverse members which extend from the respective ends of the base member and which serve to hold the rack in an upright position. According to one embodiment of the invention, angle members extend from the transverse members and the base member, respectively, and are pivotally attached to a slidable collar on the side member. According to another embodiment, base stretchers extend between the ends of each pair of transverse members disposed on the same side of the horizontal base member, said base stretchers being adapted to telescope inwardly as the transverse members are folded to a position parallel to and abutting the horizontal base member.
