Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for adjusting communication timings of beams (e.g., of beam pair links) within a beam timing advance group (TAG). In some cases, a base station may determine that transmission timing at a UE may be misaligned between multiple beams. The base station may configure a set of beams into a beam TAG, and may send a timing advance (TA) command for the beam TAG. A common timing reference value may be identified based on the TA command. UEs performing uplink transmissions may determine a TA value for the beam TAG based on the common timing reference value, and may adjust a communication timing for one or more of the beams within the beam TAG based at least in part on the common timing reference value and the timing advance value.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify that an uplink transmission to a base station is to occur in accordance with an uplink timing advance value representing an amount of time that the uplink transmission takes from transmission at the UE to reception at the base station. The UE may perform an autonomous open-loop adjustment to the uplink timing advance value. The UE may transmit the uplink transmission to the base station in accordance with the adjusted uplink timing advance value. The base station may transmit an indication of a set of uplink timing advance values for a UE to use for uplink transmissions, each of the set of uplink timing advance values representing an amount of time that an uplink transmission is expected to take from transmission at the UE to reception at the base station.

Abstract: Wireless devices may employ techniques for indicating alternative modulation coding schemes (MCSs) (e.g., MCS values or MCS indices not associated with a default list or default MCS table). That is, communications (e.g., such as physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions carrying downlink control information (DCI), physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmissions carrying uplink grants, etc.) may include information (e.g., in MCS fields and reserved fields) that indicate alternative MCSs for subsequent communications. For example, random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) scrambled DCI, random access response (RAR) messages, etc., may indicate an alternative MCS for subsequent messages in a random access procedure (e.g., for a RAR, an RRC connection request, etc.). The alternative MCS may be conveyed by indicating information such as MCS scaling factors, alternative MCS table IDs, MCS indices associated with the alternative MCS table, or some combination thereof.

Abstract: Various aspects of the disclosure relate to communicating random access information and uplink control information. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) or other suitable apparatus transmits physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) information concurrently with random access channel (RACH) information transmitted by another UE or other apparatus. For example, the RACH access information and the PUCCH information may be frequency division multiplexed orthogonal tones. The disclosure relates in some aspects to using downlink-uplink (DL-UL) channel reciprocity to determine symbol and/or tone locations. For example, a base station or other suitable apparatus may initially sweep across different directions in different time slots to transmit directional primary synchronization signals (DPSSs). A UE or other suitable apparatus can then find an appropriate RACH symbol from its best DPSS beam index and transmit PUCCH information in those symbols.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for transmission of random access preambles from a UE based at least in part on a synchronization signal block (SSB) that is received from a base station. A random access response may be transmitted from the base station based at least in part on a random access resource that is used for the random access preamble, an SSB associated with the random access resource, an SSB index, or combinations thereof. In some cases, two or more SSBs may be mapped to a single random access resource, and a single random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI), or two or more RA-RNTIs, may be used for each of the two or more SSBs. In some cases, a single random access response message contains information for each UE that transmits a random access preamble in the single random access resource.
