Abstract: A video processing method is provided to include determining, for a current video block of a video, a final prediction block for the current video block by refining one or more initial predictions for the current video block using an optical flow calculation based on a gradient of initial prediction samples according to a precision rule; and performing a conversion between the current video block and a coded representation using the final prediction block, wherein the optical flow calculation includes a prediction refinement with optical flow (PROF) procedure or a bi-directional optical flow (BDOF) procedure, wherein the precision rule specifies to use a same precision for representing the gradient for both the PROF procedure and the BDOF procedure.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for digital video coding, which includes matrix-based intra prediction methods for video coding, are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes performing a first determination that a luma video block of a video is coded using a matrix based intra prediction (MIP) mode in which a prediction block of the luma video block is determined by performing, on previously coded samples of the video, a boundary downsampling operation, followed by a matrix vector multiplication operation, and selectively followed by an upsampling operation, performing, based on the first determination, a second determination about a chroma intra mode to be used for a chroma video block associated with the luma video block, and performing, based on the second determination, a conversion between the chroma video block and a bitstream representation of the chroma video block.

Abstract: A method for video processing is provided to include performing, for a conversion between a current video block of a video and a coded representation of the video, a motion information refinement process based on samples in a first domain or a second domain; and performing the conversion based on a result of the motion information refinement process, wherein, during the conversion, the samples are obtained for the current video block from a first prediction block in the first domain using an unrefined motion information, at least a second prediction block is generated in the second domain using a refined motion information used for determining a reconstruction block, and reconstructed samples of the current video block are generated based on the at least the second prediction block.

Abstract: Techniques for implementing video processing techniques are described. In one example implementation, a method of video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, whether a combined inter and intra prediction (CIIP) coding technique is to be applied to the current block based on a characteristic of the current block. The CIIP coding technique uses an intermedia inter prediction value and an intermedia intra prediction value to derive a final prediction value of the current block. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the determining.

Abstract: A method for video coding includes receiving a bitstream representation of a current block of video data including at least one luma component and at least one chroma component, predicting, using a linear model, a first set of samples of the at least one chroma component based on a second set of samples that is selected by sub-sampling samples of the at least one luma component, and processing, based on the first and second sets of samples, the bitstream representation to generate the current block. In another representative aspect, the second set of samples are neighboring samples of the current block and are used for an intra prediction mode of the at least one luma component.
