Abstract:
An electronic display screen is created by processing a mirror on a substrate glass. A back plate glass is then placed on top of the substrate glass and sealed to the back plate glass. A hermetic seal that includes an adhesive mixed with zeolites is disclosed. The hermetic seal can seal the back plate glass with the substrate glass. The application of the hermetic seal is not limited to the electronic display screen. Rather, the hermetic seal can be used to seal a variety of surfaces including metals, polymers, plastics, alloys, ceramics and the like.
Abstract:
In order to provide a temporary lighting solution in extreme weather or lighting conditions, this application has been conceived. A set of blowers will continuously operate to inflate a long cylindrical tube in which a light has been placed to illuminate a designated area. The means of illumination for the device will be an LED light that is mounted to a plate on the top of an inflatable tube. Ventilation holes on the plate to mount the LED light and heat sinks are incorporated to dissipate the heat that is generated by this light.
Abstract:
In order to provide a temporary lighting solution in extreme weather or lighting conditions, this application has been conceived. A set of blowers will continuously operate to inflate a long cylindrical tube in which a light has been placed to illuminate a designated area. Because the unit may be used outdoors a stabilizing rod has been placed in the event of a sudden loss of power to prevent the tube from deflating rapidly and descending rapidly to the ground level and causing possible injury to persons on the ground or the light itself. Because this device may be used in extremely windy conditions, a plurality of outriggers will attach to the frame and extend outward to stabilize the device, when needed. Because the blowers will operate continuously and thereby produce noise a plurality of noise abatement containers are placed around the blowers to help lessen the noise level.
Abstract:
An optical accelerometer and method of determining an acceleration are disclosed. In one aspect, an accelerometer includes a light source, a substrate, a light guide attached to a first side of the substrate and configured to redirect light from the light source through the substrate. The accelerometer also includes a light detector, a proof mass attached to a second side of the substrate via one or more springs, wherein the second side is opposite the first side and wherein motion of the proof mass alters a characteristic of the light from the light source reaching the light detector, and a processor configured to determine an acceleration based on the characteristic of the light reaching the light detector.
Abstract:
The color reflected by an interferometric modulator may vary as a function of the angle of view. A range of colors are thus viewable by rotating the interferometric modulator relative to an observer. By placing a textured layer between an observer and an interferometric modulator, a pattern which includes the range of colors may be viewed by the observer, and the range of colors may thus be viewable from a single viewing angle.
Abstract:
A method for improving shear loading capacity of a spinal segment having a superior vertebra, an inferior vertebra or sacrum, and a facet joint, includes providing a constraint device having an upper portion, a lower portion and a compliance member coupled therebetween. The constraint device is coupled with the spinal segment such that the upper portion of the constraint device is coupled with the superior vertebra and the lower portion of the constraint device is coupled with the inferior vertebra or a sacrum. The constraint device provides a force resistant to flexion of the spinal segment. Also, length or tension in the constraint device is adjusted so as to increase engagement between an upper portion of the facet joint and a lower portion of the facet joint, thereby increasing capacity of the spinal segment to resist shear loading.
Abstract:
A spinal treatment system includes a constraint device having an upper tether portion, a lower tether portion and a compliance member coupled therebetween. The upper tether portion is coupled with a superior spinous process of a spinal segment in a patient and the lower tether portion is coupled with an inferior spinous process or sacrum of the spinal segment. The length or tension in the constraint device is adjustable so that the construct of the tether portions and the compliance member provides a force resistant to flexion of the spinal segment. The system also includes a first prosthesis coupled with the spinal segment, wherein the constraint device modulates loads borne by the prosthesis or by tissue adjacent thereto.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for reducing perceived color shift as a function of viewing angle is disclosed. One embodiment is a display device that includes a color light modulator and a color filter. The filter is configured to filter wavelengths of light that would be perceived as color shifted light when reflected by the modulator at an off-axis viewing angle. Another embodiment includes a color light modulator and a color light source configured to provide light having a spectral content that lacks the wavelengths that would be perceived as color shifted light by a view of the display at an off-axis viewing angle. Another embodiment are methods of making such display devices.
Abstract:
A system for restricting spinal flexion includes superior and inferior tether structures joined by a pair of compliance members. Compliance members comprise tension members which apply a relatively low elastic tension on the tether structures. By placing the tether structures on or over adjacent spinous processes, flexion of a spinal segment can be controlled in order to reduce pain.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention provides a method for fabricating a microelectromechanical systems device. The method comprises fabricating a first layer comprising a film having a characteristic electromechanical response, and a characteristic optical response, wherein the characteristic optical response is desirable and the characteristic electromechanical response is undesirable; and modifying the characteristic electromechanical response of the first layer by at least reducing charge build up thereon during activation of the micro electromechanical systems device.
