Abstract:
A method performed by a receiver is provided. The method includes generating an RDS/RBDS candidate codeword from a set of RDS/RBDS symbols where the RDS/RBDS candidate codeword has a subset of RDS/RBDS values that differs from corresponding subsets of RDS/RBDS values in all other possible RDS/RBDS codewords and determining whether the RDS/RBDS candidate codeword meets an acceptance criterion by comparing a first subset of reliability values determined from the set of RDS/RBDS symbols and having signs that differ from corresponding signs in the subset of RDS/RBDS values with a second subset of reliability values determined from the set of RDS/RBDS symbols and mutually exclusive with the first subset of the reliability values. A first number of values in the first and the second subsets of reliability values is less than a second number of values in the RDS/RBDS candidate codeword.
Abstract:
An RDS compatible receiver has a demodulator which demodulates RDS data, a register which converts the demodulated RDS data to block data and outputs the block data, an offset generating unit which predicts and outputs an offset word of the block data based on values of a pattern match flag signal and a synchronization flag signal, an error correction processing unit which performs error correction of the block data using the predicted offset word, compares the number of error corrections with a predetermined correction threshold, determines whether the predicted offset word is right or not based on the comparison result, and outputs the pattern match flag signal based on the determination result, and a synchronization determining unit which detects whether or not the predicted offset word determined to be right matches a predetermined offset sequence pattern, determines whether RDS block synchronization is established or not, and outputs the synchronization flag signal based on the determination result.
Abstract:
A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.
Abstract:
An interactive radio system and method are disclosed. The system enables platforms, data solutions, and building community to deliver value for listeners, stations and advertisers. The system synchronizes the on-air activity of the radio station with websites, streaming audio, ecommerce systems, text messages and visuals and may include music, promotions and commercials. The system also distributes content identifiers with device makers (RDS/HD Radio receivers) so future radios can be designed to enhance user experiences.
Abstract:
A method for operating a mobile navigation device in a vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with a radio device and wherein the navigation device encompasses at least one device for generating maneuvering instructions and a transmitter device for generating radio signals and wherein signals can be transmitted by the navigation device to the receiving part of the radio device by means of the transmitter device. The method includes the following method steps: a) computing a maneuvering display including a maneuvering instruction, which is to be displayed graphically; b) encoding the maneuvering display as a radio signal; and c) transmitting the maneuvering display, which is encoded as a radio signal, by the transmitter device of the navigation device, for transmitting the maneuvering display to the radio device.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for providing authenticated, secure, communication between a gaming host communicating via radio frequency (RF) subcarriers to a remote user device in another location. Location of the remote user device and the host server are determined by accessing signals generated by either Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, or by terrestrial radio broadcast stations, through a process known as radio frequency triangulation telemetry tracking (RF-3T). Player authentication (identity verification) is determined by use of a personal identification number (PIN). A remote user device may be implemented as a stand alone or self-contained single unit that is portable and can receive communications via radio frequency, or may be implemented as one or more discreet components adapted to be used with a laptop, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or desktop personal computer (PC).

Abstract:
A digital filter operates on the basis of a first clock having a first frequency. A stereo modulator operates on the basis of a second clock having a second frequency higher than the first frequency and being asynchronous. The stereo modulator performs a predetermined process on output data of the digital filter. A frequency modulator operates on the basis of a third clock having a third frequency whose origin is the same as that of the second clock, and performs frequency modulation on an output signal of the second digital computing unit. A sampling converter receives output data having the first frequency from the digital filter, converts a sampling frequency to data synchronized with the second clock, and outputs the obtained data to the stereo modulator.
Abstract:
An entertainment device has a control element with which a user may have equivalent data searched for and then played back by the entertainment device. The data currently being played back are examined for characteristic features, so that the search for equivalent data is then possible using these features. In particular, the actuation of the control element may be used to modify a user profile. In addition, it is possible for the data currently being played back to be stored in the entertainment device when the control element is actuated.
Abstract:
A radio receiver having an FM band tuner, an AM band tuner, a controller coupled to both said tuners, and a radio data (RD) decoder for providing radio data. The RD decoder is coupled for receiving radio data from at least one of the tuners which is tuned to a radio program. The RD decoder is coupled to the controller for switching the radio receiver from FM band to AM band or vice versa based on radio program frequency correspondence data included in the radio data. The radio receiver is advantageous since it allows for automated cross switching between different frequencies whereon a same radio program is broadcast. This is particularly advantageous if the radio receiver, such as placed in a car, leaves the broadcast coverage area. User intervention is thus obviated.
