Abstract: A spectrometer system may be used to determine one or more spectra of an object, and the one or more spectra may be associated with one or more attributes of the object that are relevant to the user. While the spectrometer system can take many forms, in many instances the system comprises a spectrometer and a processing device in communication with the spectrometer and with a remote server, wherein the spectrometer is physically integrated with an apparatus. The apparatus may have a function different than that of the spectrometer, such as a consumer appliance or device.

Abstract: A compact spectrometer is disclosed that is suitable for use in mobile devices such as cellular telephones. In preferred embodiments, the spectrometer comprises a filter, at least one Fourier transform focusing element, a micro-lens array, and a detector, but does not use any dispersive elements. Methods for using the spectrometer as an end-user device for performing on-site determinations of food quality, in particular, by comparison with an updatable database accessible by all users of the device, are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a compact wideband vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and soft X-ray grazing incidence spectrometer based on a plane amplitude diffraction grating. The spectrometer enables simultaneous detection of a VUV spectrum in a positive first order of diffraction and a negative first order of diffraction. The technical result of the invention is that of recording a spectrum in a wide spectral range (3-200 nm) with a moderate spectral resolution (λ/δλ˜15-30) and with a significantly higher spectral resolution (λ/δλ˜100-200) in a narrow soft X-ray or extreme ultraviolet range with the possibility of measuring the absolute radiation output in these regions of the spectrum.

Abstract: The Intrinsic Hyper-Spectral Flow Cytometer (IHSFC) and its associated methodology, improves current flow cytometry by eliminating the need of associated hardware-based elements currently used for spectral data detection. The (IHSFC), rather than using narrow band lasers to excite or interrogate the analytes, the flow stream is excited by a wide wavelength range beam. The raw data generated by the (IHSFC) are as follows; forward light scatter, right angle light scatter, coherent spectral data and non-coherent spectral data. The intrinsic fluorescent spectral components are extracted from the coherent and non-coherent spectral data.

Abstract: A spectral filter (10) is provided with a long-pass filter (12) and a short-pass filter (13). The long-pass filter (12) has a film thickness gradient GL wherein film thickness increases monotonically in a single direction, and transmits light of a wavelength region longer than a cut-off wavelength WL. The short-pass filter (13) has a film thickness gradient GS wherein film thickness increases monotonically in a single direction, and transmits light of a wavelength region shorter than a cut-off wavelength WS. The long-pass filter (12) and the short-pass filter (13) are overlapped such that the single directions match each other. At the positions in the single directions, a transmittance peak is formed by the cut-off wavelength WL being shorter than the cut-off wavelength WS. The film thickness gradient GL is greater than the film thickness gradient GS.
