Abstract:
A method and system for selectively re-initiating bearer connections upon communication failure. In a scenario where a gateway provides connectivity with an application server for numerous user equipment devices (UEs), when gateway communication with the application server fails, a determination may be made as to which UEs recently missed communication from the application server, and those determined UEs may be paged to re-initiate their bearer connections and to re-establish gateway registration with an appropriate application server.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and systems to authenticate a UE to grant the UE access to a voicemail account. A network entity and a UE may exchange a secure key that may then be used to authenticate the UE with the voicemail server. The exchange of the secure key may be triggered in response to receiving a user request to access a voicemail account at a voicemail server. The UE may then include the received secure key in an origination request seeking to set up a call to the voicemail server, and the voicemail server may authenticate the UE by comparing the secure key received in the origination request with the secure key most recently transmitted to the UE. If the received secure key is the same as the most recently transmitted secure key, the UE is authenticated.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to use multiple pilot signals of different transmission power levels in a wireless communication system. A base station may broadcast in its coverage area at least two different pilot signals concurrently with each other but at different transmission power levels than each other. One of these pilot signals, transmitted at a normal pilot transmission power level for instance, may be for receipt and evaluation by certain UEs served by the base station, such as UEs that are not set to receive beamformed transmission of bearer traffic from the base station. Whereas another one of these pilot signals, transmitted at an increased pilot transmission power level for instance, may be for receipt and evaluation by other UEs served by the base station, such as UEs that are set to receive beamformed transmission of bearer traffic from the base station.
Abstract:
A method and system for circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) is disclosed. A first wireless network may receive from a wireless communication device (WCD) a report including an indication of radio frequency (RF) quality of a second wireless network. The first wireless network may make a determination of whether the reported indication of RF quality exceeds a threshold. If the determination is that the reported indication of RF quality exceeds the threshold, the first wireless network may send the reported indication of RF quality to the second wireless network. However, if the determination is that the reported indication of RF quality does not exceed the threshold, the first wireless network may direct the WCD to hand off to the second wireless network and refrain from sending the reported indication of RF quality to the second wireless network.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are methods and systems for routing signaling traffic. One embodiment takes the form of a method that involves a networking device determining that a level of signaling traffic intended for a group of one or more destinations is greater than a threshold level, and responsive to the signaling traffic being greater than the threshold level, the networking device lowering a priority assigned to signaling traffic intended for the group of one or more destinations. The networking device may output the signaling traffic intended for the group of one or more destinations with the lowered priority.
Abstract:
A method and systems for managing paging congestion are described. A RAN may receive data indicating that a base station located at a particular geographic location is registering with the RAN. Responsive to receiving the data, the RAN may make a determination of whether a number of base stations in a particular tracking area that corresponds with the particular geographic location is greater than a threshold number of base stations. And responsive to making a determination that the number of base stations is greater than the threshold number of base station: the RAN may create a new tracking area having a new tracking area identity (TAI), the RAN may provision the base station with the new TAI rather than the particular TAI, and the RAN may provide the base station with a tracking area list that includes both the new TAI and a particular TAI identifying the particular tracking area.
Abstract:
A base station of a radio access network (RAN) and a multiband mobile station are configured for wireless communication in a plurality of frequency bands. The RAN selects a configuration of uplink and downlink frequencies for a radio connection between the base station and multiband mobile station. The uplink and downlink frequencies in the selected configuration are in different frequency bands. The RAN may select a frequency band for the uplink frequency based, at least in part, on a distance between the multiband mobile station and the base station. That RAN may select a frequency band for the downlink frequency based, at least in part, on respective downlink loads at the base station for the first, second, and third frequency bands.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a method, apparatus, and system for managing repeat-paging processes within a radio access network. When a base station receives a paging directive, the base station begins broadcasting a first series of page messages destined to a mobile station. Responsive to the first base station receiving no response from the mobile station to the first series of page messages and responsive to the mobile station determining a load state and/or an application type, the first base station decides to send a repeat-paging directive from the first base station to a second base station without routing the repeat-paging directive through the control node or rather to route the repeat-paging directive through the control node and then to the second base station. The repeat-paging directive directs the second base station to begin broadcasting a second series of page messages destined to the mobile station.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to help mitigate interference from an adjacent coverage area. A user equipment device (UE) determines a time division duplex (TDD) frame arrangement of a neighboring base station and reports the determined TDD frame arrangement to a serving base station. The serving base station uses the reported TDD frame arrangement of the neighboring base station as a basis to avoid scheduling downlink transmission of bearer traffic to the UE at times when the TDD frame arrangement of the neighboring base station defines uplink transmission.
Abstract:
When a user operates a telephone device to engage in a communication with another user, the user's telephone device responsively obtains from a from a plurality of image-sources a plurality of images associated with the other user and presents the obtained images on a user interface. The telephone device may obtain one or more of the images from a social network account of the other user, and the telephone device may obtain one or more of the images from an image library stored by the telephone device. Further, the telephone device may stitch together the obtained images as a collage, slide show, or the like, and present the stitched-together images during setup of the communication and/or or during the communication itself.
