Abstract: A hybrid electronic and acoustic musical instrument whose main section has an animal-like form, such as that of a cat or dog. Extending from the rear of the main section is a hollow tail section terminating in a mouthpiece and provided with a series of finger holes whereby the tail section functions as a recorder instrument. A series of push-button switches mounted on the animal-like body of the main section is connected to a Read-Only-Memory (ROM) housed in this body. Digitally stored in the ROM is a series of different recorded sounds similar to those which the animal represented by the main section is capable of producing, such as barks or meows but in quasi-musical form. When a particular push-button switch is depressed, the related digitally-stored sounds are read out of the ROM and converted to an analog signal which is amplified and reproduced. Thus by blowing into the mouthpiece and selectively fingering the finger holes on the tail sections and the push-buttons on the main section, a player can combine the recorder tones from the tail section with the sounds produced by the main section to create musical effects.

Abstract: A collapsible canteen having deposited therein a charge of water-soluble flavor crystals such that when the canteen is erected and water is poured therein, the crystals are then dissolved to produce, in situ, a soft drink. The canteen includes square top and bottom walls, the top wall having a projecting neck to receive a removable cap. Also included are a first pair of opposing side walls that are inwardly foldable in half whereby when the canteen is collapsed, the folded in first side walls are then sandwiched between the top and bottom walls, and a second pair of opposing side walls that are outwardly foldable in half and are each provided with a triangular gusset that is joined to a side wall in the first pair of side walls, whereby when the canteen is collapsed, the gussets are then folded into the folded out second pair of side walls to define a pair of outstretched wings, the wings being then folded under the bottom wall to create a square-shaped pack.

Abstract: A wall hanger adapted to display an array of compact discs which together constitute a collection of recordings. The hanger includes a backboard mountable on the wall and a layer of sponge-like compressible material laminated to the face of the backboard. Adhered to the face of the layer is a panel of flexible material provided with an array of circular wells in each of which is snugly nested a respective compact disc having a matching diameter whereby the disc is normally retained in the well. To remove any disc on display so that it can be played, the operator has only to press the panel region surrounding the disc with his fingers, thereby compressing the corresponding region of the layer and causing the disc which overlies an uncompressed zone to pop out of its well.

Abstract: A water-pistol and stuffed animal figure in which a pistol concealed in the figure is operable to cause water to spit out of the mouth of the figure. The pistol includes a hand grip provided with a trigger, a water reservoir in the form of a cartridge clip insertable in the grip, and a pump which draws water from the reservoir and pumps it into the barrel of the pistol from whose nozzle the water is ejected when the trigger is pulled. The animal figure includes a head having an open mouth and a body having an internal cavity which is open at its underside and communicates with the head. The pistol is received within the cavity with its barrel socketed in the head of the figure and its nozzle aligned with the open mouth whereby when a player who grasps the grip with his hand then appears to be holding the figure, and when he then pulls the trigger, water is ejected from the mouth of the figure who then appears to be spitting.

Abstract: A figurative toy missile in animal-like or humanoid soft form defined by a head and a torso having appendages extending therefrom. The missile structure is such that when the missile is thrown by a player, it will spin, or execute other excursions in flight, depending on how the appendages are grasped by the player. Abstract: A kit for formulating and generating different mood modifying or therapeutic aromas, the kit including a battery of vials each containing a different essential fragrance oil, thereby making it possible for a user to compound a blend of oils producing an aroma having the desired effect. Also provided is a vessel formed of cermaic or other dielectric material and having a removable cover. The inner and outer surfaces of the vessel have a glaze thereon whose composition is such that when the vessel is placed in a microwave oven and subjected to microwave energy, this energy is absorbed only by the glaze, as a consequence of which the interior of the vessel is heated to an elevated temperature and acts to volatilize a charge of oil deposited in the vessel by the user, the constituents of the charge being derived from oils taken from selected vials as formulated by the user. The resultant aromatic vapor having the desired fragrance is released into the atmosphere when the heated vessel is withdrawn from the oven and its cover is taken off.

Abstract: A system for converting a printable sheet of heat-shrinkable, synthetic plastic film material into a custom-made miniature having an image thereon of a selected individual. In this system, the face or figure of the selected individual is viewed by a video camera whose output signal is applied to a high-resolution TV monitor, on the screen of which is exhibited an image of the individual. The image is transferred from the monitor to an associated printer which impresses the image on the sheet in a scale appropriate to its dimensions. The sheet is then subjected to an elevated temperature, causing the sheet to shrink uniformly, and in doing so to markedly reduce the scale of the image thereon, thereby creating on a relatively thick substrate the desired miniature.

Abstract: A portable stereo sound set adapted to be worn by a dancer who listens to dance music through left and right earphones mounted on his head and connected to the binaural amplifier channels of the set. Included in each channel is an amplitude-control stage to adjust the base level of sound volume in the related earphone. Attached to each earphone is an attitude-sensitive potentiometer connected to the amplitude control stage on the corresponding channel. The volume of sound in each earphone is caused to deviate from the base level in a direction and to an extent which is a function of the changing resistance of the related potentiomer. The resultant volume of sound heard in each earphone therefore depends on the inclination or tilt of the head of the dancer. Because the dancer's movements are reflected in the changing attitude of his head, the volume of sound, as heard by the dancer through the earphones, is coordinated with his movements, thereby creating a feedback relationship therebetween which enhances the dancing experience.

Abstract: A hand-held hollow toy implement such as a toy baseball bat, adapted to store as well as to strike a play ball. To manufacture this implement, it is molded from a single piece of light-weight material to define a hollow shank section having a cavity therein, the shank section being provided with a handle at its lower end and a neck at its upper end functioning as one element of a two-element coupler, and a head section whose configuration is dictated by the end use of the implement, the head section being provided at its lower end with the complementary second element of the coupler. In the manufactured piece, the upper end of the shank section is joined by a collar integral therewith to the lower end of the head section. The manufactured piece is converted into the toy implement by cutting off the collar to separate the head section from the shank section, thereby exposing the cavity and making it possible to intercouple the sections. The cavity is usable to store one or more playballs, a weighted insert to impart heft to the implement, or other small articles.

Abstract: A rechargeable air freshener in a figurative form that includes a body and a head section, and an outer casing of permeable fabric material whose contours define all sections of the figure. The interior of the casing and all sections thereof are stuffed with a compressible core of absorbent material having good wicking properties, the core rendering the figure soft and squeezable. Occupying an internal cavity of the core which extends from the body to the head section thereof is a self-contained fragrance dispenser constituted by a cylindrical can filled with a liquid fragrance, a depressible stem projecting from one end of the can terminating in an actuator head provided with a spray nozzle. The can is so placed in the cavity that the actuator head lies just below the scalp region of the head section of the casing. When, therefore, the user presses the scalp region of the figure, this actuates the dispenser to spray a mist of liquid fragrance onto the core material within the head section, the fragrance being absorbed thereby and being wicked throughout the core. The aromatic vapor volatilized from the outer surface of the core passes through the permeable casing and is discharged into the atmosphere.
