摘要: Apparatus for mixing liquid and liquid suspension mediums in vessels with a mixing impeller shaft system of a composite of fibrous and plastic material of a structural configuration to enable the use of such material in commercial and industrial applications where the reaction loads of the medium on the system militate against the use of composite fibrous and plastic material. The system utilizes impellers having blades which distribute the reaction load through a hub on a mounting area of a shaft with keys and keyways in a manner to avoid stress risers unamicable to the composite material and which can cause failure thereof. Separate keys and keyways are provided to oppose the thrust due to the reaction loads and to oppose the torque due to such loads. Plural thrust keyways may be used to enable the impeller to be located at different positions on the shaft and at selected heights above the floor of the mixing vessel. Proplets on the tips of the blades extend entirely in the direction of the low pressure surface of the blades to control the flow field in the vessel and provide a more axial velocity profile of the inlet flow to the impeller which is nearly axial and substantially reduces the strength of the tip vortices.

摘要: An interface system providing vital inputs to and vital outputs from a vital processor of railway signals for railway signalling and control purposes, utilizes non-vital components such as diodes and transistors. The input interface translates a railway signal, for example, from a relay contact closure of a track relay, into a multi-bit serial digital signal representing a restrictive state of the input railway signal in the event of any failure in the input interface. The output interface utilizes an absence of current detector having a saturable transformer coupled to an output line which provides operating current to railway signal and control devices, such as relays, switch machines and signal lamps. A vital relay having a vital driver operated by the processor or control system is operated to drop away upon the detection of a failure, as indicated by the absence of current detectors or in the processor or in the control system itself, to disconnect operating power from the output interface and condition it to provide the restrictive, no-current condition on the output lines thereof.

摘要: A railway signaling relay for use in vital circuits has a high percentage release (ratio of drop away current to pickup current between 70% and 80%) by arrangement of contact springs and their associated pressure and stop plates which provide trapped pressure in the contact springs affording the high percentage release characteristic without modification of the electrical or basic mechanical configuration of the relay and retaining its vital characteristics.

摘要: An electrical connector has a body of molded insulating material for fixedly holding a plurality of electrical conductors in the body. The connector body has openings with axial and radial passageways provided for axially or radially inserting or removing the conductors. A plurality of hinges are integral with the body and adjacent each opening for enlarging the adjacent opening in order to easily insert or remove conductors. The body is resiliently held in place by means of a seal disposed against an end wall of the body. Two or more elongated tabs are disposed opposite from one another and integral with an outer wall of the body for manipulating the outer wall to easily insert or remove the electrical connector from an electrical connector cavity.

摘要: An industrial furnace with insulating walls comprising side-by-side pre-formed panels each including a plurality of ceramic insulating modules. The side wall panels include vertical buckstays to which the modules are secured by retainer clips including sharp spikes inserted into side edge surfaces of the insulating modules. Modules with offset stepped side profiles are disclosed, arranged to provide for ready removal of a single module without disturbing adjacent modules. Atmosphere furnace insulation arrangements also are disclosed utilizing ceramic modules secured to the furnace shell by special retainer clips embedded in side edge surfaces of the modules.

摘要: In order to extend the life of mixing impellers which circulate materials, and particularly which suspend solids, in the form of particles which erode the blades of the impellers and place a practical limit on impeller speed and/or angle of attack due to increased erosion at high flow velocity (erosion being a function of the cube of the velocity), the blades are constructed from blades into an airfoil configuration which does not limit the thickness of the plates and thereby allows the use of thick plates having extended life. An erosion resistant layer is located at least over the leading edge region of the blade and the shape of the blade reduces velocity of flow over the leading edge; the camber of the blade being maximized midway between the leading and trailing edge. The suction surface of the blade in the region subject to erosion is continuous thereby avoiding discontinuities which form vortices which enhance erosion. Fins, which may be at the tip on the suction side of the blade from midway between the leading and trailing edges to the trailing edge reduces tip vortices thereby further extending blade life in erosion-producing environments.

摘要: In order to circulate a two-phase system (a suspension of solid particles in liquid) in a large (e.g., 100 ft. diameter) and shallow tank (e.g., where the liquid level, Z, to tank diameter, T, ratio is 0.4), a cluster of side entering mixers is used and a desired flow pattern (much like that obtained from a top entering mixer) along the bottom and top of the material in the tank and vertically along the walls of the tank is obtained by (a) rotating an end mixer in the cluster in opposite sense to the other mixers, (b) spacing the mixers so that the interference is reduced between the flow produced by the mixers at the wall of the tank opposite from the mixers, and (c) by tilting the mixers so that the flow intersects the bottom near the wall of the tanks opposite from the mixers. It is believed that the system geometry and direction of rotation of at least one end mixer in the cluster prevents the development of angular momentum of the material in the tank thereby avoiding swirling thereof and consequent asymmetrical, nonuniform flow patterns which are not optimum for particle suspension.

摘要: A truck having a pair of wheels mounted by individual stub axles to longitudinal members of a frame. Lateral members of the frame received the forces from the wheels via the longitudinal members and forces from the car via air springs mounted to the lateral members adjacent the longitudinal members. The stub axles are easily removed from U-shaped retainers. A sleeve through the hollow axis retains the bearings to the axle. Half shafts interconnect a gear box and the stub axles for driven trucks and the interconnections are dimensioned to allow the shafts to be removed axially through the hollow axle.
