A memory contains a first data file with address pointers to the function routines where the address pointers are listed in the order that the function routines may be executed. A second data file has a separate record associated with each of the address pointers and each record identifies the data variables required by the corresponding function routine. A third data file contains information about each of the variables. A code sequencer accesses the first data file and directs execution of the function routine in the order designated by the pointers. As each function routine executes, the respective record in the second data file is used to access the required variable information.

A solid motor controller for controlling the current in an electrical motor. The motor controller includes a processing unit, and a solid state switch operatively connected to the electrical motor. The motor controller senses the current through the motor, compares the current with a reference current level, and limits the current in the motor by rapidly switching the switch between an ON and an OFF state when the current exceeds the reference current level. The controller de-energizes the motor by placing the switch in the OFF state when the current exceeds the reference current for a predetermined period of time. The controller also includes a second solid state switch which is controlled to rapidly stop the rotation of the motor. The motor controller also activates a high current warning when the current exceeds a high current limit. Further, the motor controller senses the battery voltage, provides a low voltage warning indication when the battery voltage falls below a predetermined value, and shuts down the motor when the battery voltage falls below a second predetermined value. Finally, the controller measures the temperature near a selected component and shuts down the motor when the temperature exceeds a predetermined value.

The load is sensed without using a manifold pressure or throttle plate position sensor, thereby reducing the cost of the system. The load is sensed by determining a period of a first crankshaft revolution, determining a period of the successive second crankshaft revolution, and computing a difference value that is a function of the difference between the first and second periods. Since the difference value is proportional to engine load, the difference values may be compared with a reference value to determine whether a load is being applied to the engine. The reference value may be preset, may be manually determined by the operator, or may be learned by the system's software. When the learning feature is used, the system is automatically mapped to the particular engine on which it is used.

A hydraulic system has a valve assembly with two workports coupled to chambers of first and second cylinders which are connected mechanically in parallel to a machine component. A separation control valve is connected between first chambers of both cylinders, and a shunt control valve is connected between the workports. A recovery control valve couples an accumulator to the first chamber of the second cylinder. Opening and closing the valves in different combinations routes fluid from one or both cylinders into the accumulator where the fluid is stored under pressure, and thereafter enables stored fluid to be used to power one or both cylinders. The shunt control valve is used to route fluid exhausting from one chamber of each cylinder to the other chambers of those cylinders. Thus the hydraulic system recovers and reuses energy in various manners.

Using an electrohydraulic pilot valve enables the main poppet to operate quickly in controlling large fluid flow rates. Unidirectional and bidirectional versions of the control valve are described.
