摘要： A content guide, such as a program guide for use with a plurality of audio/visual programs, has a browsing and selection interface that comprises a two-dimensional display that presents three spatial dimensions of a three-dimensional object. This object (or objects) bear at least some characterizing descriptors that correspond to various program options available to a viewer. In a preferred embodiment the browsing and selection interface comprises a plurality of cylinders. A viewer can cause these cylinders to rotate to present previously hidden characterizing information for review and/or selection by the viewer.

摘要： Presently selected filter criterion for each of a plurality of characterizing descriptor filters are displayed along with characterizing descriptions of programming options that correspond to a present setting of the filters. A viewer readily navigates these displayed elements to discern available programming options and/or to view and select other filter criteria in an intuitive manner and without resort to nested menus. Upon moving an area of focus into a region of the display that includes a presently selected filter criterion, other user-selectable filter criteria for that filter are also automatically displayed to permit the viewer to observe, consider, and select a new criterion by which to filter the available programming options.

摘要： A content distribution system and method which prevents unauthorized access to secured content such as movies and music. The system includes a source, a receiver, an authorized security device such as a conditional access module (CAM) for decrypting authorized content and an output device for outputting content. The system can also include a backend for managing accounts and system operations. One aspect of this invention is that the content data is derived from the Internet. The system allows for the verification of authorization to play secured content, the addition of watermarks to the secured content, the conversion of the secured content to a displayable form and the means for preventing output of the secured content.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for facilitating program data acquisition. In one embodiment, a set-top box is set to enter an auto-off state based on a user-defined auto-off time. Once the set-top box has entered the auto-off state, a channel from which program guide data may be obtained may be automatically tune to. The auto-off state may be automatically exited in order to either respond to a user interaction or to avoid missing previously-programmed recordings. Upon exiting the auto-off state, the set-top box may be tuned back to the channel that it was tuned to prior to entering the auto-off state.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for customizing content navigation. In one embodiment, a user navigates through pre-recorded or cached content in accordance with on one or more user preferences. Such user preferences may include one or more of content cache size, instant replay time, advance time, FF/REV speeds, slow motion speed and overshoot correction. In one embodiment, a DVR setup menu may be used to enter the user preferences via a remote control device. The user preferences may then be saved in non-volatile memory and used for navigation of subsequent content playback.
