Abstract:
A first wireless device including a communication module and a processor. The communication module is configured to detect a wireless signal from a target device. The processor is configured to determine a radial proximity of the first wireless devices to the target device based on a strength of the wireless signal. The processor is configured to execute a program. The program allows a user of the first wireless device to play a game with a second wireless device executing the program. The program is configured to generate a pictorial representation of the game on the first wireless device and the second wireless device. The processor is configured to alter the pictorial representation of the game on the first wireless device and the second wireless device based on the radial proximity of the first wireless device to the target device.
Abstract:
An access point includes a beacon module and a control module. The access point transmits a beacon during a beacon interval. The beacon module determines a first portion of the beacon interval and a second portion of the beacon interval. The access point operates in a normal mode during the first portion of the beacon interval. The control module operates the access point in a power save mode during the second portion of the beacon interval. The control module operates the access point in the power save mode in response to a client station not communicating with the access point during the first portion of the beacon interval.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for deriving an encryption key for use between two stations in a wireless network using information intrinsic to one of the stations, without exchanging pairwise transient keys.
Abstract:
A client station includes a transceiver module and an association module. The transceiver module is configured to receive a beacon from an access point. The beacon includes information of a first available channel that is not assigned for licensed use in a regulated frequency spectrum and that is available for use at a location of the access point. The association module is configured to associate the client station with the access point via the first available channel in response to the client station being within range of the location of the access point.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit configured to operate in a mobile device includes a discovery generator module. The discovery generator module is configured to generate a corresponding random value for each beacon interval. A discovery control module is configured to determine a duration of time of a given beacon interval in which the mobile device is to operate in at least one of an active mode and a sleep mode. The duration of time is based on the corresponding random value generated for the given beacon interval. A physical layer (PHY) device is configured to wirelessly transmit a discovery request signal during the time the mobile device is operating in the active mode. The mobile device is partially powered down or fully powered down during the time the mobile device is operating in the sleep mode.
Abstract:
The invention includes additional uses for the SSID of the IEEE 802.11 beacon to include reliable and secure capability encoding. The SSID in the system can be controlled by applications and transmitted with periodic broadcasting or point to point communication, so interoperable communication of application or user preferences/capabilities/membership can be transmitted and quickly determined by peers.
Abstract:
A method of operating a wireless communication device includes transmitting a query to a wireless network. The query requests information about a type of Internet Protocol (IP) address assignment in use on the wireless network. The method also includes receiving a reply from the wireless network, wherein the reply includes the information about the type of IP address assignment in use on the wireless network. The method further includes determining an IP address for the wireless communication device, including: only in response to the information about the type of IP address assignment in use on the wireless network, as set forth in the reply, indicating that dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) is in use by the wireless network, transmitting a DHCP discovery message to the wireless network in order to determine the IP address for the wireless communication device.
Abstract:
The present specification describes techniques and apparatuses for peer-to-peer frequency band negotiation. In some embodiments, techniques are described using a bit vector that are fast and/or require low data throughput.
Abstract:
An available frequency band for communication is determined, and a subset of communication channels from possible communication channels within the available frequency band is determined based on the available frequency band. A communication channel is selected from the subset of communication channels, and the selected communication channel is utilized to communicate with one or more communication devices.
Abstract:
Systems and techniques relating to management of membership in mobile, wireless ad hoc networks are described. A described technique includes transmitting, by a device that is not a member of an ad hoc network, a request to join the ad hoc network to a given device of the ad hoc network. The method also includes receiving from the given device information including a set of addresses of devices of the ad hoc network that is locally stored at the given device. In addition, the method includes obtaining an address for the requesting device to be different from any address of the received set of addresses.
