A method and apparatus for constructing a map for a mobile robot to be able to reduce a data amount and increase an approach speed. The method includes: searching for a plurality of feature data occupying an arbitrary space by scanning a surrounding environment of the mobile robot; performing quadtree segmentation on first feature data of the plurality of feature data to generate a plurality of first node information as a result of the quadtree segmentation; determining a position of second feature data of the plurality of feature data with respect to the first feature data; and performing a neighborhood moving algorithm for generating a plurality of second node information of the second feature data according to the position of second feature data by using the plurality of first node information.

Exemplary embodiments disclose a method of projecting an image onto a surface of a three-dimensional (3D) electronic map. The method includes: extracting nearest intersecting points for each of a plurality of virtual view angle vectors with respect to a position of a virtual photographing apparatus and a plurality of polygons that constitute the 3D electronic map; comparing 3D coordinates of the extracted nearest intersecting points and 3D coordinates of a plurality of pixels constituting the plurality of polygons to select pixels that are within a range of the 3D coordinates of the extracted nearest intersecting points; converting 3D coordinates of the selected pixels to two-dimensional (2D) coordinates to display the selected pixels on a 2D display; and superimposing an input image on top of the selected pixels to output the superimposed image in real-time.

Provided is an image processing apparatus that can effectively display an image by using an optimized dynamic range compression technique and a method of processing an image by using the same. The method includes: obtaining a first blurred image and a second blurred image from the input image; estimating illuminance of the input image by combining the first blurred image and the second blurred image; generating a dark region amplified image from the input image; generating a bright region conserved image from the input image; applying weights to the dark region amplified image and the bright region conserved image, respectively, according to the estimated illuminance; and combining the weighted dark region amplified image and the weighted bright region conserved image to generate a final image.

A method of detecting camera tempering and a system therefor are provided. The method includes: performing at least one of following operations: (i) detecting a size of a foreground in an image, and determining whether a first condition, that the size exceeds a first reference value, is satisfied, (ii) detecting change of a sum of the largest pixel value differences among pixel value differences between adjacent pixels in selected horizontal lines of the image, according to time, and determining whether a second condition, that the change lasts for a predetermined time period, is satisfied, and (iii) adding up a plurality of global motion vectors with respect to a plurality of images, and determining whether a third condition, that a sum of the global motion vectors exceeds a second reference value, is satisfied; and determining occurrence of camera tempering if at least one of the corresponding conditions is satisfied.

An apparatus and method for quickly and accurately extracting an object in an image, the method including: performing at least one resizing on an extraction model pattern for of the object to be extracted; scanning an image frame, captured by a camera, using each of the at least one resized extraction model pattern, and extracting the object that is matched with any one of the at least one resized extraction model pattern; and displaying information about a position of the extracted object.
