Abstract:
In an embodiment, the invention discloses a medical assembly comprising a ring shaped member configured to surround a vaginal wall and an arm member. The arm member is coupled to the ring shaped member and configured to extend from the ring shaped member to a bodily location. The arm member is configured to be coupled to the bodily location and provide a support to a vagina of a patient. The ring shaped member is configured to hold the arm member during implantation of the arm member within the body. The ring shaped member is further configured to be cut after implantation so that the ring shaped member is transformed into a non-circular shape.
Abstract:
Example embodiments provide a sling assembly including two separate slings or sling sections connected via a removable or biodegradable connection mechanism such that the tension in the sling assembly can be readily adjusted after the sling assembly is surgically implanted.
Abstract:
Some embodiments are directed to medical devices, and methods for making and using the medical devices. An exemplary medical device includes a first elongate member, a second elongate member, and a coupler. The coupler may be configured to removably couple the first elongate member to the second elongate member.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for performing medical procedures in body lumens are described. Embodiments of the methods include forming a plug to partially or fully occlude the lumen and moving the plug through a surgical field. Embodiments of the systems include an elongate body graspable by a surgical instrument or by a surgeon that are adapted to anchor to the plug.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a medical device includes a tissue suction housing and a moveable member disposed in the tissue suction housing. The tissue suction housing has a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end has an opening and the tissue suction housing has at least two suturing device openings. The tissue suction housing is configured to pull up bodily tissue through the opening in the distal end when placed under a vacuum and to receive a suturing device through one of the suturing device openings.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, an implant includes a support member configured to be placed within a body of a patient and provide support to a portion of the body of the patient, a tether coupled to an end portion of the support member; and an anchor configured to be disposed within a tissue of the body of the patient to help retain the implant in place within the body of the patient. The tether is coupled to the anchor such that the tether may move with respect to the anchor in a first direction but is retrained from moving in a second direction. In one embodiment, a method of placing an implant within a body of a patient includes making an incision in the body of the patient, inserting the implant into the body of the patient through the incision, placing the implant within the body of the patient such that a support member provides support to a portion of the body and an anchor helps retain the implant in place within the body of the patient, closing the incision, and adjusting the tension of the implant after closing the incision.
Abstract:
A medical device and method for facilitating a surgery through a body opening is disclosed. The medical device includes a flexible member configured to be placed within the body opening so as to cover a portion of the body opening. The flexible member includes a distal end portion with a closed end, a proximal end portion with an open end and an elongate portion joining the proximal end portion and the distal end portion. The proximal end portion is configured to extend out of the patient's body opening to cover an area around and outside the patient's body opening.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a medical device may include an insertion member configured to be inserted into a body opening, and a needle member, movably coupled to the insertion member, configured to be inserted into the body opening. The needle member may include a lumen configured to transfer dissection fluid, a blunt tip located on a distal end of the needle member, and an opening disposed proximate to the blunt tip that is configured to discharge the dissection fluid into a space between tissue layers.
