A scanning element of the reader is manufactured by spacing a first and second support element apart by a gap bounded by edges of the support elements; injection molding a curable, elastomeric material in flowable form over the edges and into the gap; and allowing the curable, elastomeric material to cure and bond to the edges, and form a flexible hinge in the gap for enabling movement of the support elements relative to one another both away from and toward a stable rest initial position.

摘要： An apparatus and method for expediting self-checkout at a point-of-sale station, employ a mobile electronic device, e.g., a cellular phone, held and operated by each customer. The device images one-dimensional symbols identifying items to be purchased, decodes the one-dimensional symbols to form decoded data, combines the decoded data to form one or more two-dimensional symbols, and displays each two-dimensional symbol on a display screen. Each displayed two-dimensional symbol is presented to a window of an electro-optical scanner at the point-of-sale station. The scanner images and decodes each displayed two-dimensional symbol to form a series of decoded data indicative of all the one-dimensional symbols, and sends the series of decoded data to a host network.

摘要： A substantially uniform distributed illumination pattern of light is generated on and along a symbol to be read by image capture. A solid-state imager is mounted on a tilted printed circuit board in a tilted handle of an ergonomic reader. An imaging lens assembly captures return light over a field of view from the symbol along an imaging axis, and projects the captured return light onto the imager. An illumination light source is mounted on the board for emitting illumination light at an acute angle of inclination relative to the imaging axis. An optical component includes a first lens portion with a polynomial incident surface for intercepting, bending and aligning the emitted illumination light to generate the pattern in a scan direction along the symbol, and a second lens portion with a toroidal or cylindrical aspherical surface for collimating the aligned illumination light to generate the pattern in a transverse direction.

摘要： A bi-optical workstation has dual windows and an imaging reader for electro-optically reading indicia on targets to be processed at the workstation through at least one of the windows. An upright window of the workstation is protected from scratching and/or contamination by deeply recessing the upright window in a raised housing portion of the workstation, and by spacing the upright window away from a front wall of the raised housing portion by a spacing exceeding one-half of an inch. A pair of protection bars is advantageously exteriorly mounted on the upright window and located in the spacing to block contact of the targets with the upright window.
