    摘要: A polarizing device, such as a wire-grid polarizer, includes a substantial mono-layer of a corrosion inhibitor without adversely affecting the optical properties of the polarizing device. The polarizing device can include an optical element and a nano-structure, such as an array of a plurality of spaced-apart, elongated elements disposed on a substrate. The corrosion inhibitor is chemically bonded to surfaces of the elements to form the mono-layer. The mono-layer can have a thickness less than 100 Angstroms. A method of forming the substantial mono-layer can include treating the polarizing device with an amino phosphonate, such as a nitrilotris (methylene) triphosphonic acid.

    摘要: An image projection system has a wire grid polarizing beam splitter which functions as both the polarizer and the analyzer in the system. A light source produces a source light beam directed at the beam splitter which reflects one polarization and transmits the other. A liquid crystal array is disposed in either the reflected or transmitted beam. The array modulates the polarization of the beam, encoding image information thereon, and directs the modulated beam back to the beam splitter. The beam splitter again reflects one polarization and transmits the other so that the encoded image is either reflected or transmitted to a screen. The beam splitter can be an embedded wire grid polarizer with an array of parallel, elongated, spaced-apart elements sandwiched between first and second layers. The elements form a plurality of gaps between the elements which provide a refractive index less than the refractive index of the first or second layers.

    摘要: A radiation detector window structure for use with a radiation detection system includes a frame, a plurality of upstanding spaced-apart ribs held in place by the frame, where the tops of the ribs terminate generally in common plane, and a thin film of material disposed on the tops of the ribs to span over the gaps therebetween for passing the radiation to be detected and for filtering at least some of the unwanted radiation. The tops of the ribs are smoothed and rounded to minimize a chance of piercing the film placed thereover. The ribs are spaced to provide sufficient support for the film so that the thickness of the film may be reduced to better transmit desired radiation.
