The single narrow width belt has at least one raised frictional contact element on its outer run for frictional engagement with a sheet to separate a sheet from a sheet separation station and transport it across an imaging platen to a registration station, single frictional contact element provides a single pivot about which a sheet may pivot when it reaches the registration stop member to be deskewed. In an alternative embodiment the device is used simply for transporting, registering and deskewing sheets.

    摘要: Sheet stacking apparatus for handing simplex and duplex copy sheets has both inverting and non-inverting copy sheet paths (6a, 6b) which can be selected by moving a diverter (7) between two positions. In one position (7a) the copy sheet is directed along guide branch (6a) into slots (9) of the disc inverter (8) which rotates to invert the sheet. The sheet is advanced by nip rolls (32a, 32b) at the output end of the inverting path (6a). An upwardly inclined collection tray (10) has a backstop (30) located in the path of the inverted sheet, but with recesses (20) which allow the discs (8) to pass freely. The lead edge of the sheet is brought to rest when it abuts the backstop (30). Nip rolls (32a, 32b) continue to advance the sheet until its trail edge exits the rolls (32a, 32b) and thus it is delivered into the collection tray (10) inverted. In the other position (7b) the diverter (7) directs the sheets along guide branch (6b) to nip rolls (3a, 3b) which feed the sheet without inversion directly into the tray (10). The discs (8) have concave cut-away portions (18) so as not to foul the non-inverting sheet path (6b). The stacker may be used as a moving-bin sorter in which case the discs (8) have flat sides (28) to prevent fouling the path of movable collection trays, i.e. bins, as they pass by.

    摘要: A sorting apparatus which has a nest of a plurality of sheet receiving bins supported on a sorting support frame, each bin with a sheet output end and a sheet input end, the plurality of bins being pivotally mounted at their output end about the same pivot point on the support frame such that the output end of each bin is at a level higher than its input end so that the bins slope upwardly for uphill stacking of sheets as they are inserted. The bins are spaced relatively close together at the input end and relatively far apart at the output end. The apparatus is also provided with a rotary shifting member to sequentially pivot the bins about their pivoting mount to index the bins past the fixed feed throat for sheet insertion and as the bins are indexed past the fixed feed throat the rotary shifting member widely spaces adjacent bins to provide sheet entry for successive bins when positioned opposite the feed throat while the input ends of the bins are nested close together on either side of the sheet entry.

    摘要: A method for stacking objects in a container including the step of measuring a thickness value of each object at a plurality of predetermined locations along a face surface of the respective object. A cumulative thickness profile is developed indicative of a plurality of stacked objects, i.e., juxtaposed along each face surface. The cumulative thickness profile is, furthermore, calculated by summing each of the measured thickness dimensions at each of the predetermined locations. Next, a maximum thickness value is determined as each of the objects is measured and compared to a maximum fill value for each container to determine an overfill condition/number. The overfill condition corresponds to the number of objects which additively cause the maximum thickness value to exceed the maximum fill value. The objects may then be stacked based upon the overfill condition such that the total number of objects is less than the number corresponding to the overfill condition. The method facilitates optimum stacking of objects wherein at least one object has an irregular shape or non-uniform thickness profile.

    摘要: A system is provided for stacking mail having an escort assembly for handling each mailpiece. The system comprises a containment device, a transport mechanism and a detachment mechanism. The containment device includes a base, vertical walls extending from the base and an open end for accepting the mailpieces therein. The containment device, furthermore, has a slot formed in at least one of the vertical walls thereof. The transport mechanism includes first and second transport segment, the first transport segment conveying escort assemblies and respective mailpieces over an open end of the containment device and the second transport segment lowering the escort assemblies and respective mailpieces into the open end of the containment device. The transport mechanism furthermore aligns the edges of the mailpieces along one of the vertical walls of the containment device and positions the escort assembly through the slot of the containment device. The detachment mechanism is operative to release the mailpieces from the respective escort assembly and move the escort assemblies through the slot of the containment device.

    摘要: A sorter, method, and software product are used for sorting objects into a sequence of destination addresses, in at most a single pass through the sorter. In a first stage of the single pass through the sorter, the objects are sorted into a plurality of batches corresponding to groups of the destination addresses. The batches are then eventually advanced from the first stage to a second stage of the single pass through the sorter. During that second stage, objects in each of the batches are sorted into the sequence of destination addresses.
