Abstract: Methods and apparatus control the ejection of fluid from a nozzle by selectively actuating a fluid actuator that displaces and ejects fluid through an ejection orifice of the nozzle. The methods and apparatus at least partially closing the ejection orifice of the nozzle, while the fluid actuator is inactive, to reduce evaporation of the fluid.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to control a heater associated with a printing nozzle are disclosed. A method comprising controlling a heater associated with a printing nozzle to reduce a heat output of the heater based on a determination that the printing nozzle is outside a print area and printing an image on a substrate using other printing nozzles while the heat output of the heater is reduced.

Abstract: A print pre-treatment module is provided for printing an ink on a PVC print medium from a printer. The PVC print medium may have exudates on the surface. The pre-treatment module includes an impermeable material in rubbing contact with the PVC print medium, which is supported on a media roller conveying the print medium. Also disclosed herein are a printer incorporating the module and a method for reducing print defects on the PVC print medium.

Abstract: An immiscible fluid distribution system applies immiscible fluid to the nozzles of a printhead to at least partly cap unused nozzles during printing. A printer subassembly may comprise an immiscible fluid distribution system to apply an immiscible fluid to the surface of a printhead nozzle plate. A method of capping a printhead may comprise applying a layer of immiscible fluid to nozzles of a printhead and selectively ejecting a fluid from a first subset of nozzles while not ejecting fluid from a second subset of nozzles that are at least partially capped with the immiscible fluid.

Abstract: A method of preparing a printer cartridge for transport may comprise applying a volume of immiscible fluid to a nozzle bore of a printhead. A printer cartridge may comprise a volume of immiscible fluid deposited into a nozzle bore of a nozzle of the printhead and a layer of immiscible fluid applied over the nozzle bore opening. A printhead die may comprise a volume of immiscible fluid deposited into a nozzle bore of the die and a layer of immiscible fluid applied over the nozzle bore opening.
