Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a slice and a luma mapping with chroma scaling (LMCS) adaptation parameter set (APS) including LMCS parameters. The mechanism further includes determining that the LMCS APS is referenced in data related to the slice. The mechanism further includes decoding the slice using LMCS parameters from the LMCS APS based on the reference to the LMCS APS. The mechanism further includes forwarding the slice for display as part of a decoded video sequence.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes partitioning a picture into a plurality of tiles. A number of the tiles are included in a tile group. The mechanism determines whether the tile group is a raster scan tile group or a rectangular tile group. The number of tiles in the tile group is determined based on whether the tile group is the raster scan tile group or the rectangular tile group. The tiles are encoded into a bitstream based on the tile group. The bitstream is stored for communication toward a decoder.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism for viewpoint dependent video coding is disclosed. The mechanism includes mapping a spherical video sequence into a plurality of sub-picture video sequences. The mechanism further includes encoding the plurality of sub-picture video sequences as sub-picture bitstreams to support merging of the plurality of sub-picture bitstreams, the encoding ensuring that each sub-picture bitstream is self-referenced and two or more of the sub-picture bitstreams can be merged to generate a single video bitstream using a lightweight bitstream rewriting process that does not involve changing of any block-level coding results. A mergeable indication is encoded to indicate that the sub-picture bitstream containing the indication is compatible with a multi-bitstream merge function for reconstruction of the spherical video sequence. A set of the sub-picture bitstreams and the mergeable indication are transmitted toward the decoder to support decoding and displaying a virtual reality video viewport.

Abstract: A method of decoding is provided. The method includes receiving a sub-bitstream having a sequence parameter set (SPS) with a decoded picture buffer (DPB) syntax structure for an output layer set (OLS) with only one layer; setting a number of layers in the OLS equal to one based on the OLS having the only one layer; obtaining the DPB syntax structure for the OLS with the one layer from the SPS when the number of layers in the OLS has been set equal to one; and decoding a picture from the only one layer using the DPB syntax structure to obtain a decoded picture. A corresponding method of encoding is also provided.

Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising one or more layers and a scalable nesting supplemental enhancement information (SEI) message. The scalable nesting SEI message includes one or more scalable-nested SEI messages and a scalable nesting output layer set (OLS) flag. The scalable nesting OLS flag is set to specify whether the scalable-nested SEI messages apply to specific OLSs or specific layers. A coded picture is decoded from the one or more layers to produce a decoded picture. The decoded picture is forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.

Abstract: A method of video decoding comprises receiving a bitstream including a SPS, a PPS, and subpictures associated with a subpicture ID mapping. A determination is made of whether an SPS flag has a first or second value. The SPS flag having the first value specifies that the subpicture ID mapping is signaled in the SPS, and the second value specifies that the subpicture ID mapping is signaled in the PPS. The subpicture ID mapping is obtained from the SPS when the SPS flag has the first value and from the PPS when the SPS flag has the second value or the PPS flag has the first value.
