    摘要: An image forming apparatus having replaceable or exhaustible component parts is provided with a security system to determine the authenticity and remaining service life of the component parts. The component part can be provided with an identifiable code, for example, stored in a RAM that can be checked with predetermined identification codes in a computer system in the image forming apparatus. Verification of the authenticity of the replaceable component part can govern the operation of the copying apparatus. The component part, for example, can be provided with a manufacturer code and a confidential identity code. This manufacturer code can be compared with the stored manufacturer code, and a determination can be made as to whether the product is authentic and the remaining useful life of the product. If the product is not authentic, the copying apparatus can be disabled. Also, if the product has been rebuilt or has come to the end of its useful life, the copying apparatus can be disabled.

    摘要: An image scanning device includes a first scanner scanning a top side of a transported document at a first scanning position to obtain a first scanned image, a second scanner scanning the back side of the transported document at a second scanning position to obtain a second scanned image, a document feeder transporting a document at the second scanning position at a speed differing from the transportation speed at the first scanning position, and a controller controlling the image scanning device. The controller sets, as a scanning form of a document, either one-side scanning of scanning one side of a document through one transportation, or dual-side scanning of scanning both sides of a document through one transportation. The controller also obtains a set magnification. The controller determines the transportation speed by the document feeder such that, when one-side scanning is set, the scanning magnification in a first direction corresponding to the document transportation direction at the first scanned image attains the set magnification, and when dual-side scanning is set, the scanning magnification in the first direction at the second scanned image attains the set magnification.

    摘要: The inventive image processing apparatus takes steps of 1) dividing an image to be processed into numerals of blocks; 2) determining whether a block is a color block or not; 3) determining whether the image is a color image or not based on the rate of color blocks to the entire blocks. Thereby, valid color pixel rate can be obtained at blocks belonging to a color region even though an image is almost monochrome but partially colored. Then, image data of each block are compressed to data having 4 gradation levels smaller than 256 levels of the image data by generalized block truncation coding. Then a capacity of image memory can be decreased. An attribute of the image data is decided for each block according to the compressed data. The attribute can be corrected by taking attributes of adjacent blocks into account. Edition of image data such as edge emphasis can be performed according to the attributes. The compressed data are further compressed by deleting data which can be specified according to the attribute.
