摘要: Embodiments of the invention establish electric continuity across an actuator head suspension assembly and a pivot bearing assembly without involving an increased manufacturing cost through a simple structure. In one embodiment, a carriage made of a plastic resin is provided with a pivot opening. A pivot bearing assembly is inserted into the pivot opening. The pivot opening includes a step formed by holes having different hole diameters from each other at an adjoining portion thereof. Two actuator arms are secured to the carriage through insert molding to support an HDA. One of the two actuator arms is provided with a hole functioning as a pivot opening and having a smaller hole diameter so as to form the step. The other of the two actuator arms is provided with a hole functioning as a pivot opening and having a larger hole diameter. The hole having the larger hole diameter includes protruded portions that abut against the pivot bearing assembly with no clearance therebetween. The hole also includes recessed portions disposed between each adjoining pair of the protruded portions and having a clearance from the pivot bearing assembly.

摘要: Components and assemblies for a hard disk drive (HDD) with a recessed actuator joint are described. A rotary actuator hub assembly comprises a shaft having a flange, and a pivot seat on which the flange is seated when the shaft is fastened to an HDD chassis. According to an embodiment, the pivot seat has at least one “contact-reducing feature” recessed from the surface of the pivot seat at which the seat contacts the flange. A purpose of the contact-reducing feature(s) of the pivot seat is to weaken the joint between the actuator hub assembly and the chassis, thereby mechanically loosening the rotary actuator assembly from the chassis. Consequently, movements to and vibrations from the chassis are less likely to be transmitted to the rotary actuator assembly and, ultimately, to the HDD read/write head(s).

According to one embodiment of the present invention, in a head stack assembly in which a head gimbal assembly, a carriage, and a head gimbal assembly are stacked and fixed by a pivot cartridge, a spring washer and a nut, an annular recess portion having a length in the radial direction of a flange is formed on a contact face of the flange formed at one end of the cartridge, so that two places of a mount plate of the head gimbal assembly may be partially supported in the radial direction of the flange.

摘要: A disk drive and an arm coil support assembly are to be provided which enables a trace to be disposed with a simple construction without the need of machining arms. In one embodiment, a trace for connection between a head and an FPC is disposed on an opposite surface of each of arms and opposite to a confronting surface of each of the arms which confronts a recording surface of a disk. The trace is bent nearly vertically in the vicinity of a connection between a coil support which supports the arms, and holds a VCM coil and the arm and is connected to the FPC. The coil support includes a force mechanism having a gap for insertion therein of the trace and also having a pressure portion spaced through the gap from the surface on which the trace is disposed. The force mechanism prevents wafting of the trace from the opposite surface of the arm caused by the bending of the trace.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention position accurately an actuator head suspension assembly (AHSA) relative to a magnetic disk without using any positioning jig, as achieved through a simple structure and involving no increase in manufacturing, and to prevent the AHSA from being charge. In one embodiment, a conductive AHSA includes a pivot opening formed to provide a step at an adjoining portion of two holes having different hole diameters from each other. A pivot bearing assembly includes a first conductive roller bearing and a second conductive roller bearing. The first and the second roller bearings include outer races and inner races with balls interposed between the outer races and the inner races. The first and the second roller bearings are disposed in tandem to achieve the following arrangements. Specifically, the outer race of the second roller bearing fits into a hole having a larger hole diameter in the pivot opening, while the outer race of the first roller bearing fits into hole having a smaller hole diameter in the pivot opening. There is interposed a conductive spacer between the first and the second roller bearings. The spacer abuts on the step in the pivot opening. A conductive pivot shaft is inserted in each of the inner races of the first and the second roller bearings disposed in tandem in the pivot opening.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a support structure for a voice coil that is not easily damaged even when a carriage assembly used in a magnetic disk drive is made thinner. In one embodiment, the voice coil includes a stack of a plurality of layers of aligned windings held between an outer holding portion and an inner holding portion of the carriage assembly. The carriage assembly is formed integrally with the voice coil through injection molding. An outermost peripheral layer is a conductive wire wound a number of turns that falls short of the number of turns required to constitute a complete layer. A step is thereby formed between the outermost peripheral layer and a layer adjacent thereto and inner therefrom. The outer holding portion includes a reinforcement portion formed thereon to cover part of a transverse end face of the voice coil. The outermost peripheral layer opposes a force acting on the outer holding portion from top downward and the reinforcement portion opposes a force acting on the outer holding portion from bottom upward.

摘要: Terminals of a flexible printed circuit board and terminals of a wiring trace in a head suspension assembly are to be connected with each other by soldering without causing a soldering defect. In an embodiment, a terminal structure of a multi-connector in a wiring trace which includes an insulating layer and a conductor pattern portion formed on a surface of the insulating layer is provided with exposed portions of terminals exposed from apertures formed in part of the insulating layer and is also provided with lining portions adjacent to the exposed portions in a longitudinal direction of the conductor pattern portion and bonded to the insulating layer. Even if terminals of the multi-connector are cracked when soldered, not only conductivity is ensured, but also it is possible to strengthen the terminals, because the lining portions of the terminals are bonded to the insulating layer.
