Abstract: This control apparatus of an engine includes an engine, a state quantity setting device, an injector, a spark plug, and a controller. The controller outputs a control signal to the spark plug at a predetermined ignition timing such that, after air-fuel mixture is ignited and combustion is started, unburned air-fuel mixture is combusted by autoignition, and the controller advances an ignition timing when the temperature before start of compression in a combustion chamber is to be reduced.

Abstract: A control device for a compression-ignition engine is provided, which includes an engine having a plurality of cylinders, spark plug, a fuel injector, and a control unit connected to the spark plug and the fuel injector. The control unit causes the engine to perform an all-cylinder operation when the engine operates at a load above a given load, and perform a reduced-cylinder operation at a load below the given load. In the reduced-cylinder operation, the fuel injector injects fuel to one or some of the cylinders to generate mixture gas, the spark plug ignites the mixture gas, and the engine starts, at an air-fuel ratio larger than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio and a large compression ratio, SI combustion in which the mixture gas is ignited to combust by flame propagation, and then perform CI combustion in which unburned mixture gas ignites by self-ignition.

Abstract: A control system of a compression-ignition engine is provided, which includes an engine configured to cause combustion of mixture gas inside a combustion chamber, a spark plug, and a controller configured to operate the engine. The combustion is performed in a given mode in which, after the spark plug ignites the mixture gas to start combustion, unburned mixture gas combusts by self-ignition. The controller has a heat amount ratio changing module configured to change, according to an engine operating state, a heat amount ratio as an index relating to a ratio of a heat amount generated when the mixture gas combusts by flame propagation with respect to a total heat amount generated when the mixture gas inside the combustion chamber combusts. The controller causes the changing module to increase the heat amount ratio at a high engine speed than at a low engine speed.

Abstract: An engine control apparatus includes an ignition control section and an injection control section. When the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the ignition control section causes an ignition plug to carry out: main ignition in which a spark is generated in a late period of a compression stroke or an initial period of a expansion stroke to initiate the SI combustion; and preceding ignition in which the spark is generated at earlier timing than the main ignition. Also, when the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, the injection control section causes the injector to inject fuel at such timing that the fuel exists in a cylinder at an earlier time point than the preceding ignition. The energy of the preceding ignition is set to be higher when fuel concentration specified by a fuel concentration specification section is low than when the fuel concentration is high.

Abstract: A control apparatus for a compression-ignition type engine is applied to an engine capable of carrying out partial compression ignition combustion. When the partial compression ignition combustion is carried out, an ignition control section of the control apparatus causes an ignition plug to carry out: main ignition in which a spark is generated to initiate the SI combustion; and preceding ignition in which the spark is generated at an earlier time point than the main ignition. An injection control section causes the ignition plug to inject fuel in an intake stroke. The ignition control section sets energy of the preceding ignition to be lower than energy of the main ignition and causes the ignition plug to carry out the preceding ignition after the fuel injection in the intake stroke or an early period or a middle period of a compression stroke.

Abstract: A control device for a compression ignition engine is provided. At least in a high-load range where an engine load is higher than a given value, among an operating range where a partial compression ignition combustion is performed, an EGR valve is opened, and a first injection in which fuel is injected at least from an intake stroke to the first half of a compression stroke is carried out. While an engine body is operated in the high-load range, when a torque down request and a request for reducing external EGR gas amount introduced into the cylinder are issued, the opening of the EGR valve is reduced, and a second injection in which fuel is injected in the second half of the compression stroke is carried out, and a ratio of a fuel amount of the second injection to the total fuel amount injected in a combustion cycle is increased.

Abstract: A control system for a compression-ignition engine is provided, which includes the engine, a spark plug, a fuel injection valve, an air-fuel ratio control valve, and a control unit. A geometric compression ratio of the engine is 14:1 or above. The control unit includes a processor configured to execute an air-fuel ratio controlling module for, when the engine being in a given operating state is detected, controlling the air-fuel ratio control valve to bring the air-fuel ratio of the entire mixture gas to a given lean air-fuel ratio that is larger than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, and an spark plug controlling module for, after this control, outputting the control signal to the spark plug to perform the ignition at a given ignition timing so that the mixture gas starts combustion by flame propagation and then unburned mixture gas self-ignites. The given ignition timing is stored in a memory.

Abstract: A compression-ignition engine control system is provided, which includes an intake variable mechanism and a controller. Within a first operating range and a second operating range on a higher engine load side, the controller controls the variable mechanism to form a gas-fuel ratio (G/F) lean environment in which an air-fuel ratio inside a cylinder is near a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio and burnt gas remains inside the cylinder, and controls a spark plug to spark-ignite mixture gas inside the cylinder to combust in a partial compression-ignition combustion. The controller controls the variable mechanism to advance the intake valve open timing on an advancing side of a TDC of the exhaust stroke, as the engine load increases within the first range, and retard the intake valve open timing on the advancing side of the TDC of the exhaust stroke, as the engine load increases within the second range.

While a supercharging system is performing supercharging and the EGR system is introducing burned gas into a combustion chamber, in response to a control signal from the controller, the spark plug ignites air-fuel mixture at predetermined timing so that unburned air-fuel mixture combusts by autoignition after the air-fuel mixture starts to combust by the ignition.
