摘要: A fixed-optics system for detecting fluorescence light emitted from one or more spatially selected volumes (S), e.g., in one or more microfluidic channels, comprises a detection optical fiber (60) corresponding to each selected volume and a ball lens (110) adjacent to one end of each optical fiber, wherein the ball lens has a diameter (D) larger than the diameter of the optical fiber and a distance (d1) between the ball lens and the optical fiber is in a range of 3 to 40 times the diameter of the optical fiber, so that due to a quasi-focusing configuration light emitted from the spatially selected volume and received by the ball lens converges onto the end (60a) of the optical fiber.

摘要: A clothing packing apparatus for folding a clothing article, such as a suit, comprising a spacing material to separate parts of the folded clothing article comprises a parts that partial overlay a fold line in the aligned sleeves and the body of an article of clothing; a slit for folding the sleeves independently; gripping surfaces to engage the clothing article; rounded/tapered edges to eliminate pressure compressions; pre-formed bands to improve folding performance; and a casing for storage and transit. The spacing material is preferably formed of foam capable of forming a continuous U-shaped curve along the fold lines and an anti-collapsible structure when folded with the clothing article.

摘要: Methods and apparatus enable reliable and improved isolation between two portions of a bore extending through a casing string disposed in a borehole. A downhole deployment valve (DDV) may provide the isolation utilizing a valve member such as a flapper that is disposed in a housing of the DDV and is designed to close against a seat within the housing. The DDV includes an operating mechanism for opening/closing the DDV. In use, pressure in one portion of a well that is in fluid communication with a well surface may be bled off and open at well surface while maintaining pressure in another portion of the casing string beyond the DDV.

摘要: The present invention generally relates to chemotherapeutic treatment of proliferative disorders, such as cancer. The invention more specifically relates to inhibition of pan-cell cycle progression with alkylating anthraquinones, which may inhibit mitotic commitment, lead to limited expression of G2 arrest and force cells to enter polyploidy via an aberrant mitosis. The methods of the invention are particularly useful in the treatment of chemotherapy-resistant cancers.

摘要: A method of characterizing a signal path includes (i) generating a reference spread-spectrum signal; (ii) coupling the reference spread-spectrum signal into the signal path while the signal path is carrying an operational signal; (iii) receiving a reflected spread-spectrum signal from the signal path generated in response to the reference spread-spectrum signal; and (iv) correlating the reflected spread-spectrum signal with the reference spread-spectrum signal to produce a correlation result corresponding to a characteristic of the signal path.

摘要: A device and method for testing a slider of a head-gimbal assembly during disc drive manufacturing. The device includes a test disc, an actuator arm and a control module. The test disc has a first circumferential area for detecting contact between the slider and the test disc and a second circumferential area for burnishing sliders that contact the first circumferential area as the test disc rotates at or above the predetermined velocity. The head-gimbal assembly is affixed to a support, or flexure, on the actuator arm such that the slider is operable to move between an inner diameter and an outer diameter of the test disc. The control module controls rotation of the test disc and movement of the actuator arm, and thus the slider, relative to the test disc. The control module monitors the slider-disc interface for contact therebetween. If contact is detected, the slider is either burnished or the head-gimbal assembly is discarded altogether.

摘要: The present invention provides lossless, static defined-word compression without a tree structure or recursion, thereby reducing the use of processing resources and memory. The efficiency of the present invention does not decrease when the message probability distribution is highly skewed, and the present invention does not limit the length of codewords. Pursuant to the teachings of the present invention compression efficiency can reach within 1% of the theoretical minimum entropy. The present invention also naturally provides decompression without storing codewords in the translation table, providing a more compact translation table.
