A system for generating an aerosol is also provided, including an aerosol-generating device including a heating chamber and a heating element; and the aerosol-generating article, the aerosol-generating article being configured to be insertable into the heating chamber.
Abstract:
An aerosol generating article is provided, including a combustible carbonaceous heat source; an aerosol-forming substrate; and a thermal indicator provided on an outer surface of the aerosol-generating article downstream of the combustible carbonaceous heat source. The thermal indicator includes at least one reversible thermochromic material that undergoes a first reversible visible colour change when a temperature of the thermal indicator rises to a first switching temperature and a second reversible visible colour change when a temperature of the thermal indicator falls to a second switching temperature. The first switching temperature is below about 80° C. and the second switching temperature is lower than or equal to the first switching temperature.
Abstract:
A heated aerosol-generating article for use with an aerosol-generating device is provided, in the form of a rod having a mouth end and a distal end upstream from the mouth end. An aerosol-forming substrate is located upstream of the mouth end within the rod and the distal end of the heated aerosol-generating article is spanned by a non-flammable thermally-conductive material to reduce the propensity for ignition of the article.
Abstract:
A rod and a method of forming a rod are provided. The rod includes a gathered sheet of material circumscribed by a wrapper, in which the sheet of material is a co-laminated sheet comprising a layer of an aerosol-forming material and a layer of a thermally-conductive material and in which the wrapper is a metal foil. The method includes providing a continuous co-laminated sheet including an aerosol-forming material and a thermally-conductive material; gathering the co-laminated sheet transversely relative to its longitudinal axis; circumscribing the gathered co-laminated sheet with a metal foil wrapper to form a continuous rod; and severing the continuous rod into a plurality of discrete rods.
Abstract:
An electrically operated aerosol-generating system is provided, including an aerosol-generating device including an electrically powered heating element; and a heated aerosol-generating article including an aerosol-forming substrate radially encircled by a sheet of thermally-conductive material, which is a thermally conducting flame barrier configured to spread heat and to mitigate against a risk of igniting the substrate by application of a flame to the article, and a plurality of elements, assembled together with the substrate within a wrapper to form a rod having a mouth end and a distal end upstream from the mouth end, the substrate being disposed at the distal end of the rod, the elements including a spacer element disposed within the rod downstream of the substrate and a mouthpiece element extending upstream from the mouth end of the rod, the device being configured to receive the article and the heating element is configured to heat the substrate of the article.
Abstract:
A smoking article is provided, including a combustible heat source having a front portion and a rear portion; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the rear portion of the combustible heat source; and a wrapper circumscribing the front portion and the rear portion of the combustible heat source. The wrapper is in contact with the rear portion of the combustible heat source. All or part of the front portion of the combustible heat source is of reduced diameter compared to the rear portion of the combustible heat source so that the wrapper is radially spaced from all or part of the front portion of the combustible heat source by an air gap of at least about 0.5 mm.
Abstract:
There is provided a smoking article having a mouth end and a distal end, the smoking article including a heat source positioned at the distal end; an aerosol-forming substrate adjacent to the heat source; and a cap configured to at least partially cover the heat source. The cap is attached at a line of weakness to the distal end, including a cylindrical plug of material circumscribed by a wrapper, and is removable to expose the heat source prior to use of the smoking article.
