Abstract: A multi-layer laminate includes a glass panel unit, an intermediate film, and a transparent plate. The transparent plate is assembled to the glass panel unit via the intermediate film. The glass panel unit includes a first and second glass panel, and an evacuated space. The evacuated space is interposed between the first and second glass panel. A method for manufacturing the multi-layer laminate includes a step. The step includes exhausting a gas from a bag, loaded with the glass panel unit, the intermediate film, and the transparent plate, to cause the bag to shrink and thereby assembling, using the bag thus shrunk, the glass panel unit and the transparent plate via the intermediate film. The step includes raising a pressure inside the bag from a pressure at an initial stage of heating while increasing a temperature of the intermediate film to a predetermined temperature at which the intermediate film softens.

Abstract: A sealing head includes a frame, an intake unit, a pressing pin, and a non-contact heater. The frame is configured to be detachably attached to a work in progress of a glass panel unit. The intake unit, the pressing pin, and the non-contact heater are supported by the frame. The work in progress includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a bonding part, and an internal space. The first substrate has an evacuation port. The bonding part bonds the first substrate and the second substrate together. The internal space is formed by being surrounded by the first substrate, the second substrate, and the bonding part. The internal space is communicated with the evacuation port. The pressing pin is configured to press, toward the second substrate, a sealing material which is heat fusible and which is inserted into the evacuation port. The non-contact heater is configured to locally heat the sealing material in a non-contact manner via the second substrate.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a multi-layer stack includes bonding a transparent plate to an outer surface of at least one of a first glass panel or a second glass panel of a glass panel unit with an intermediate film interposed therebetween. The glass panel unit includes: the first glass panel; the second glass panel; and an evacuated space provided between the first glass panel and the second glass panel. A plurality of spacers are provided in the evacuated space between the first glass panel and the second glass panel. A pressure applied for bonding the glass panel unit and the transparent plate together is less than a compressive strength of the plurality of spacers.

Abstract: A glass panel unit manufacturing method includes a bonding step, an insertion step, an evacuation step, and a sealing step. The bonding step includes bonding a first substrate having an evacuation port and a second substrate together with a bonding material provided between the first substrate and the second substrate and having a frame shape to form an internal space. The insertion step includes inserting a sealing material into the evacuation port. The evacuation step includes evacuating the internal space through the exhaust passage. The sealing step includes deforming the sealing material by heating while an evacuated state in the internal space is maintained. In a state where the sealing material blocks ventilation between the evacuation port and the internal space, gas is supplied through the exhaust passage toward the evacuation port.

Abstract: A manufacturing method of a glass panel unit of the present invention includes a bonding step, a pressure reduction step, and a sealing step. In the bonding step, a first substrate and a second substrate are hermetically bonded together with a seal having a frame shape. In the pressure reduction step, a pressure in an inside space formed between the first substrate and the second substrate is reduced through an exhaust port. In the sealing step, sealant melted is dropped toward the exhaust port, thereby sealing the exhaust port with the sealant.
