Abstract:
An assembly that can determine position of a viewer of an audio video device and direct changes in audio and video output in response to azimuth, elevation, and range of the viewer in relation to the assembly. The assembly can also utilize facial recognition to direct changes in audio and video output in response to preprogrammed special needs of specific viewers.
Abstract:
An audio source (TV, stereo) detects, through a wireless signal from a headphone or from its cradle, when the headphone has been disengaged from the cradle. In response the audio device automatically mutes or lowers the volume output by its speakers.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for displaying 3D video and imaging on a display system or television set which incorporate a transmissive display coupled over a multi-color backlighting panel having a plurality of distributed color emissive elements (e.g., colored LEDs). In response to detecting the framing output to the transmissive display, the color output of the backlight is alternately sequenced to enhance the anaglyph or to provide definition for alternate right/left image frames. In one implementation, the type of video stream being input (e.g., 2D, 3D, type of 3D, and so forth.) of the video is used in combination with user selected mode settings to determine whether display output is generated in a 2D mode with a fixed color (e.g., white) output or in a 3D mode in which the color alternates between a first and second color of backlighting.
Abstract:
An aggregation device in a home network accumulates information from audio video apparatuses in the network that the apparatuses require enablement of respective licensable components for which no license event has yet occurred. The aggregation device sends an indication of the license events to a server so that appropriate royalties may be paid post-sale of the various devices.
Abstract:
A unified software download package is deployed to multiple CE device models, and a user of the device can configure the unified software package to the desired configuration. A remote feature activation system allows the device to take advantage of any of the additional features contained in the unified software package that can be supported in the device, even if it was not originally supported in the original configuration data of the CE device itself. When the CE device is ready for activation the user can be given the option to accept new features, and then the CE device can notify a server accordingly so that if additional licenses and their associated royalties are required, license codes can be provided to the CE device and royalty payments adjusted.
Abstract:
A television for presenting video content in 3D has a video display controlled by a processor to present video content in a video plane and a user interface (UI) in a graphics plane. The processor receives input indicating a viewer desire to virtually move the UI up or back along a z-axis that is perpendicular to the video plane and responsive to the input change the location of the UI on the z-axis. This may done by altering image disparity produced to create a 3D effect.
Abstract:
Control information is exchanged between a component and a remote control device or a server using RFID or using network discovery procedures. The control information if gathered by the server is provided to the remote. In this way, the need to manually program the remote with component code information is eliminated.
Abstract:
A bi-directional communications interface includes a source multiplexer for connecting to a video source. The source multiplexer includes a source multiplexer input port for receiving an analog video signal from the video source, a source multiplexer output port for driving the video source with an upstream data signal, and a source multiplexer bi-directional port for coupling the analog video signal from the source multiplexer input port to the video cable and for coupling the upstream data signal from the video cable to the source multiplexer output port.
Abstract:
A flat high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable. The flat cable that is less visible in comparison to a round HDMI cable for wall mounted television setup. An HDMI connector is coupled to the flat cable. An active circuit isolates physical characteristics of the HDMI connector. The active circuit causes the flat cable to appear shorter than its actual length during HDMI compliance testing using impedance testing. Moreover, the active circuit causes a consumer electronic control (CEC) line, a display data channel (DDC) line and transition minimized differential signal (TMDS) line to actively terminate for reducing parasitic capacitance from the length of the flat cable during HDMI compliance testing. Thus, the isolation allows the flat cable to satisfy HDMI compliant testing. The flat cable may be selected from a group consisting of ribbon cable, twisted pair cable, flexible printed circuit board, micro coax cable, optical cable and glass fiber cable.
Abstract:
Parental control settings are provided to a display device by a user. In one embodiment, the display device generates a message, such as a consumer electronic control (CEC) message, which corresponds to the user-provided parental control settings. This message may then be transmitted to one or more source devices to which the display device is connected via an HDMI interface. The HDMI-connected devices may then modify or otherwise conform their own parental control settings in accordance with the parent control data in the received message. In one embodiment, the display device may then receive content from the HDMI-connected devices which has already been pre-filtered in accordance with the parental control settings that were provided directly to the display device.
